Put very well. Greg Sollie was put on this earth to make everyone around him a better person, and he did a hell of a job. I have no doubt that when my graduating class gathers for 10, 20, and 30 year reunions at least half the stories we will remember will come from Mr. Sollie's class.

Batteries were also "Batchries" in his class

I remember one time, he fell off of a makeshift skateboard in our classroom. I can't remember what it was doing there, but I'm pretty sure it was around the time we were doing our Rube Goldberg projects. Talk about a sight to see; a 6'10" man falling off of a skateboard in a classroom. I think all of us in his immediate vicinity ran for cover.

That man was awesome. I had trouble in physics and he would stay after school to help me out.
During the spring semester he figured out that I played baseball so anytime we won a big game, he would always ask me why we didnt win by more. He said we were the sorriest excuse for a sports related program. He would tell me the state ring I won the year before was because they felt sorry for us.
He was easily the most entertaining teacher I had. One of the few I would want to sit down and have a beer with today

My favorite teacher and Catholic and hands down, the greatest nickname creator of all time.

His purposeful mispronunciations were great. the number 9 was 2 "ni- in"
The word siren was "sigh-reen"

He apparently died of a heart attack this evening after going home following the end of school day. Man was a giant. His presence will be missed.
Had the Honor of working with Greg the last five years and he was truly one of the finest gentlemen I have ever met. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Ending quote on the live feed made me smile. I forgot he would say at the end of class "Have a day, gentlemen!"

Watching the stream now, good to see they play the same songs at the services still

This thread really shows how great of a man Mr Sollie was. His enthusiasm in physics was a large reason as to why I majored in mechanical engineering and I am thankful for having him as a teacher.
Like he would say
"Have a day, gentlemen"

I was reading this thread, not knowing who he is and wishing I had met him. Then I realized I had...he officiated a game I was coaching a few years ago. I asked him why he made a specific call.
His response: "I can see the court better from this altitude"
I'm 5'9"

That response sums him up pretty well
That stream just now... Who brought the onions?

It was a great stream. Loved the quote at the end. Watching it makes me wish I would have gone to it. I really wish I could have listen to what the students, especially the seniors, had to say this morning. I would have been for sure.

Glad I got to watch the stream. Was a great tribute to a great man. Michael Allelo did a fantastic job. Prayers to the Sollie family.

That absolutely represents the Greg Sollie classroom experience.
Man was he funny.
Made learning fun. Especially at 7:15 in the morning (I had him first period my senior year).
Everyone in my office must think I'm prepping for a gumbo with all the onions in my office.

He always said "ob-stacle" instead of "obstacle" just because it drove a kid in class crazy.
My favorite was "Calculate the Warrick Dunn"
