Quarterman and Hornsby starting backcourt. Patterson and gray in relief, but mostly Patterson. Hopefully gray can get his shite together so Patterson can help out at 3 to bolster the forward rotation. Pray for the starters to stay healthy.

Darcy plays what 10-14 minutes a game tops. Usually the rest of the time LSU plays three guards anyway. LSU plays seven guys basically. All four guards are needed.

he had 3 TO's in 32 minutes of play. That's acceptable...especially with 8 assists and 15 points...

You are an idiot! Quartermann is a ball hogging spastic turnover machine. If Grey does not start than JUST obviously hands the keys to Patterson. Even as a freshman he is way more polished than Turnovermann

TQ-
Minutes played: 589
Turnovers: 46

JG-
Minutes played: 476
Turnovers: 56

Who's the real turnover machine? Idiot

Also, of note, Tim shooting 80% at the FT line. Gray shooting 65%. Who do you want stepping up to shoot when we need to close out a game?

Gray has more assists. So that is an advantage. But really the only one he has over TQ.

Team Season Stats

Anyway, carry on...

Gray is not an SEC point guard. Lsu had better search for some one better soon.

Who starts does matter, though. Why start the game giving the other team easy baskets because of Gray's turnovers? Maybe coming off the bench will settle him down.

I wouldn't mind a lineup of:

Quarterman
Hornsby
Martin
Mickey
Malone

with Gray coming off bench as an off guard and Patterson playing both off guard and PG.

I sill don't mind Gray getting the start (even though right now I think he is the 2nd or maybe the the 3rd best option at the point). That said, Jones has to have a quick hook (like last night) if things start to spiral out of control

Yeah I think Gray is still transitioning from scoring guard to SEC point guard. Not an easy thing to do. We need both of 'em and Quarterman is getting starter minutes and is always in the game at crunch time.

Kind of easy to do when we are up 15 and TQ had 8 assists that game and no turnovers before that point. Gray had 1 assist and 4 turnovers.

Their assist to turnover ratio is the EXACT same at 1.4

TQ has a better FG%, 3pt%, FT%, PPG,Blk/G, and Rebounds/G.

But by all means

Don't come at me with numbers. Assists can be an overated stat. My eyes tell me that the team looks disoriented when Gray is on the floor, he's not a good floor general or leader and he makes careless mistakes.

Didn't mean to sound combative. Was just trying to say that numbers aren't needed to figure out who is the better player.

Carry on!

give it time grey will figure it out

It's up to the coaches to help him figure it out and benching him after a handful of unacceptable turnovers is a good start. That and going with the off-ball diagonal passing they utilized for the duration of the game is the way to break the 2-2-1 trapping press. TQ and Hornsby were great at it last night. Gray also needs to find that instinct that all true point guards have of when to split the double-team and when to pass around it. He looked lost last night both in full and half-court traps.

Without question. It's obvious.

I'm not dissing TQ. People are just reacting very strongly, and whenever TQ struggles as a sophomore will, I don't want him to be eaten by the rant.

I get that this is the nature of message boards, but I hope we don't forget that Gray was fantastic @ Ole Miss (14 pts at 50% FG, 10 ast/3to) while TQ struggled (8pt at 33% FG, 0 ast/3to). While you have punish poor performance, we only have 4 guards on roster and can't afford to completely bench any of them.
