I saw the thread title and said, "Damn, Blackhelicopterpilot is a much more powerful dude than I thought."

Do you think they are just going to drill real slow? Maybe get SLB to do the directional work?

The article says 40% of their shale drilling rigs.

Damn, wonder what this will do to their stock. I have a small stake in the BBL portion of this company. Solid dividend performer in the past. This isn't good though

Thread title needs changing. They are not shutting down wells. They are reducing their rig count by 40%.

This was guy wrenching when I read the (incorrect) subject. Not surprising when I realized it was rigs, not wells.

BHP is reducing their rig count. NOT shutting in or down their wells. They couldn't make any money if they shut in their wells.

Article also said that Baker Hughes "fired" 7,000 people, not lay them off.. Who do we have writing these articles? College kids?

That's pretty silly of Yahoo. The general public has a tendency to confuse rig with well

The general public is not going to know the difference between a drilling rig and a production well even if you spell it out like I just did.

The article was generated by Business Insider. That should explain the lack of knowledge by author.

Can I request a change of title? They're reducing their rig count by 40%, not shutting in 40% of their wells. They're not drilling new wells is all this article says.

Sorry guys. I could of sworn it said wells last night. Don't kill the messenger. I didn't write the article. Just passing on.

Yeah the headline says they're shutting down 40% of the wells, but it's really misleading. I know that most people don't really get the difference, but the difference between shutting in a well and shutting down a rig is pretty large.
