Eh, I think you are thinking of one subset of people.
Look at how many broke arse women are walking around with Coach and Michael Kors.. almost to the point where their attempts to look wealthy are making the item itself less sought after.

Yes, that's another group. Chicks that walk around in raggedy velour tracksuits or sweats but carrying around $800 handbags.
I'm just glad the popular trend of rolling out of bed and leaving the house in your pj pants and torn t-shirts seemed to subside.
