re: Have you ever turned down a job that offered more money than your current one?

Yes, I was offered a salary that was slightly higher than what I have now but weighed the options and figured it wasn't worth it considering the benefit package they have. The company I work for pays 100% medical insurance for individual and family. Here soon I will be married and will add my now gf to my insurance and save us over $200 a month she is paying for her insurance.

Just made the move earlier this month. Offered more money, a promotion and it's a better environment with a lot better coworkers.
I think I upgraded

Yes
And I may do it again in a month or so.

it really depends on what motivates you - but I would not. If you are happy and have enough money to be comfortable, I would not add unneeded stress in your life. Enjoy life I say.

I learned a hard lesson in life - if you are happy with your current job, don't be led to the money at another company.
Don't make the same mistakes I did.
That said, my previous job was a great job and I failed to realize how good the entire job, not just the salary, was in comparison to the new job.

No. I was offered more money for a different position within my field that would have been less rewarding and I turned it down. This was 2 years ago. I have never looked back and in all honesty, knowing what I know now, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Unless you are destitute and your family is starving, don't sacrifice your happiness for a few extra bones.

I was offered a small paycut (~$2,000 annually) to go to my current position when it was offered to me. Once I accepted and provided my notice to my former employer, they countered with a lateral promotion, reporting to a different Department Head/Chief. They'd known I was in open conflict with my current management chain. Or rather, they were choosing to be in conflict with me.
I could maintain my pay, regain some other perks afforded to other employees that I was forced to sign over in order to accept the position I was in at the time, etc.
Had to tell them no. For over a year, upper management had allowed my management chain to run roughshod over our Unit and me personally, chopping off any dissension at the knees. Our employment status was probation and that fact was constantly lorded over our heads. People received emails warning them about being late from management that actually referenced them arriving on time.
All the while personal friends of the management within the units and the management were allowed to turn in substandard work, miss repeated deadlines, and pass blame off to others with impunity. Just a total management nightmare.
Naturally when they countered I split anyway. Spent the better part of a decade there. Competitively promoted multiple times, etc. Worked my way up from the ground. Loved the people and was completely bought in to the work we did and the Misson.
But frick those POS. No mission or altruistic sense of the work I did was worth more than my mental health. Neither was the offer of more money, or even the same.
Sometimes you have to side step in order to keep moving forward.

I'm not sure. I've declined interviews for different jobs, and companies don't typically tell you how much they'll pay you before you get far enough in the process.
Are some of you just constantly interviewing for new jobs? If so, why? Otherwise, how do you know how much you'd be getting paid?

The first real job I was offered would have paid extremely well with a ton of benefits. I told them I would take it, but changed my mind after giving it a little more thought.
The next to last job was a decent job, had a fair wage and benefits, but I was dying on the inside, so I took a job that paid less than 1/3 of the previous. I have never made a smarter decision.
The job I am doing now is good money, but a ton of hours. It is just to pass the time until I can make the trek to Montana again in late April

Turned down a VP position in Las Vegas. 100k increase.
I didn't want to raise my kids there. Surprisingly easy to turn down. It was then I realized I didn't care about money.

Yes because of benefits

Yes, multiple times. One of them was a company that didn't even send me a rejection letter after they acted all excited to take my resume and promised to set up an interview date.
What I'm doing now is building more value for the future than if I took on of the offers that doubles my salary.
