It is quite simple.
It is a fact that Haley will end up at TAMU.
LSU wants him to quit rather than pay a settlement on the remainder of his contract and Haley want to be let go. LSU knows he won't be there and Haley knows he is going to TAMU. It is a simple game of chicken and it must be ego-driven because LSU would only have to pay less than one of Chavis' per game average salary to fire Haley.

No he meant intern...because if your not a coach on the team you can't be called a coach. If you're in an admin/staff role you're an intern, like Kragthorpe and now Haley.
I do think there was a little sourness for Haley by Miles, but calling him an intern was correct.
I don't see how Haley can stay on staff, it's just too awkard for the other coaches and mainly the DL players.

how long until the 5 power conferences are in their own division completely?

I heard Brick has personal reasons to stay at LSU...maybe he has Seniors in HS, or his wife doesn't want to leave
Special needs child. It would be very disruptive to uproot a child from family, friends, doctors, house, etc...
I've been told he is staying and doing what is best for his family.

".. 1. Allegedly Brick has some family medical issues that have him deeply tied down to Baton Rouge.
2. Intern is the term/position that Brick must be in at this time in order to abide by NCAA requirements.
3. IMO, he is staying at LSU and will be named to a different position once the NCAA approves the additional coaching slot.
ETA: This is one of those rare occasions where it would be better if the Rant would not assume that Miles was insulting Brick by using the term "intern". I don't think it was an insult. And, please don't bash Brick unless he leaves and goes to A&M. He's still a Tiger right now.

This , mostly. At least states facts of situation.
Miles would not intentionally insult or embarrass Haley .
A word stumble by Miles perhaps . But Haley has to be in "some capacity" to stay on staff. "Intern" is as good as any...

Brick has never been at one job more than three years and has been at several for a year at a time. Moving never bothered him before.

No, it would cost 800,000 to fire him. We get 100,000 if another school takes him.

Why would the SID not clarify Miles intern comment if it were not intentional? Perhaps say Miles meant administrative role. Not saying it was intentional just that a quick release could clear it up.

Because there is no need to clear anything up.

Productivity on the D Line has been below average the last 2 seasons. Change was needed.

TAMU and Bama(Another rumored targer) both have strong programs that would apply to Brick's child. Brick's child's situation is also not as profound as most with the same condition.
THe whole situation is fairly bizarre and sad as folks I know say Brick is a good guy in general.
I was confused as to they buyout. If LSU would have to pay the full $800,000 to release him it makes a bit more sense. OF course paying an intern or special assistant $400,000 a year is also a bit bizarre.

A bit more than opinion. Chavis has been tight with Haley since he coached Haley at Alabama A & M. He did not do a good job developing LSU DL so keeping him at LSU makes little sense.
But if $400,000 a year for someone who won;t be coaching makes sense, enjoy...

Alabama pays way more than $400,000 per year for recruiters who don't coach. Also, if they get the 11th coach added, he'll end up coaching.

Brick has basically been fired. Because he signed a new contract however, I assume LSU doesn't want to buy him out. So they keep him on the payroll, supposedly as an intern, until he can find a new job and resigns.
Then again maybe they aren't going to release him so he can't go to A&M with Chavis. So punishment or just saving money, either way anyone who thinks he will actually do intern work is nuts.

They keep him on the payroll until the SEC adds an extra coaching position for him to fill, allowing them to hire Orgeron now.

He could buyout his contract with or without arse To Mouth U's help if he wanted to go there.

How would it be saving money? He's working under the same contract that he signed in December.

I doubt he was ever a candidate for the job. Hell a few posters on TD were probably candidates according to the "reports" on the coaches change board.
