Totally agree. But this is what we did.

You'll need one at each field. I've only been involved with one babe Ruth league but that league played at a park with 6 fields. That's 6 more people you have to pay for each game. My experience is that the scorekeepers are typically cute little HS girls who have enough trouble keeping up with the score (and texting their boy friend). How the hell are they expecting them to pay attention to every pitch? I'm not saying that using a pitch count is bad, just the opposite, I just see the enforcement being a nightmare.

We use Gamechanger, makes keeping the book and pitch counts easy.

There's an issue. Youth sports should be volunteer (except for the umpires). I hate that it has become a business.

No, Louisiana.

Pitch counts will be monitored by volunteers. Just as scorekeepers are volunteers. It's just rec ball.

As an ex-pitcher that had arm issues, a pitch count is the way to go but who's going to keep count? The coach? Pretty sure he'll fudge the numbers to keep his ace in longer.
The other team will be counting if it means the ace will be removed. Official scorekeeper could keep count, too. Not that hard. Just need a clicker.

I don't care for UTrip but 18U should be unlimited! Hell that's college aged ball players. SEC baseball doesn't have a pitch count?
But to many times baseball youth coaches will do what ever to WIN! It's all about bragging on Monday, just like the parents. Last season we faced a 14 yo and he threw 140 pitches at us!!!! We faced a 12yo a few years ago and he threw 148 at us!
why can't the field ump keep a clicker in his pocket and count pitches? after each inning he records the runs scored on his scorecard, he could write the pitches from each 1/2 inning next to the pitchers name who threw them.

2002 I believe. Won both, but by the 3rd inning of the second game, everything was a changeup. We were playing a tournament and ran out of pitchers

Umpires have way too much else to worry about than keeping score and pitch counts.

road, the biggest problem I see in youth ball is that even with pitch counts in a game, I don't see limits on games alot.
USSSA at least gives some guidelines for number of innings pitched over the number of days a tournament takes place.
It's still patently stupid though.
Worse than pitching 100 pitches in a game is warming up and throwing 40 at 10am, then coming back and warming up and throwing 20 at 2pm. Then going another 30 at 9am the next morning and then another 15 at 1pm that afternoon.
Plus playing catcher for half of the other innings not pitched.
It's ridiculous regardless of the rules how coaches can ride players.
Man up and develop some other kids.

So throwing a changeup was easier on your tired arm than a fastball?
