2012 Alabama wasn't on the offense. 2013 Alabama wasn't on the offense. 2014 Alabama wasn't on the offense. Those have been our big games. The D shite the bed in all 3.
2012 lost to Bama 21-17... and you assign all blame to the defense, none to the offense.
2013 lost to Bama 38-17... and you assign all blame to the defense, none to the offense.
2014 lost to Bama 20-13 in OT... and you assign all blame to the defense, none to the offense.
You have become so accustomed to great defense, that you just assume that's how it's supposed to be. I mean, you held Bama to 13 points in regulation in 2014. No other team Bama faced was that effective. And yet you STILL say that was a game in which the D "shite the bed".
Conversely, you've become so accustomed to BAD offense, that you essentially give it a pass. Your offense averaged 15.7 points per game against Bama. Bama hasn't scored less than 17 points in any game the past three seasons. 15.7 ppg just isn't going to cut it against them.
Yes, the Defense let you down in 2013, but it was the only reason you were in the other two games.

yeah we are legitimately numb to what a competent offense is at LSU right now
and i don't say that in any sort of ironic way. to keep the faith our fanbase has to ring whatever positive spin they can out of our offensive failures (statistically). if 2013 is our ceiling then we are in trouble without a super duper elite D

Did you not see how Chiefs style in crunch time allowed them to go right down the field to tie the game in the blink of an eye? You will understand when you get to witness it first hand if you have a slim lead in the fourth quarter and need a stand from the defense. Don't act surprised when it happens, you were warned.

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you.
Coaches can be good coaches and lose games and coaches can be bad coaches and win games.
IF the W-L target is (arbitrarily) 13-2
and..
If Maryland's coaches had Bama's 2014 players...
and Bama's coaches had Maryland's 2014 talent...
Who would get closer to the target record?
The optimism comes from the fact that the defense won't falter immensely. And that we'll get that one "Cam Robison" who will push us over the edge.

Maybe go back and look at the 2012 and 2014 box scores. LSU dominated TOP in both games. So it's not like the D should have been gassed.
Both years LSU held the lead late in the game. Both years the D gave up big plays to allow Bama to win or tie.
