this is false.

very, very false.

Saban was an unknown. he was an up and comer.

Unlike Steele, who has been a failure everywhere he's been.

He's sucked at many stops and had mental issues that affected the team. It's a terrible hire and I'm beside myself with anger

We remember different reactions then! I remember a lot of criticism and angst with the hire like ...He had no SEC experience and will get killed trying to bring a big 10 philosophy to the SEC. Was mediocre except for one good season at MSU. Won't be able to recruit the south! Etc..

To be honest, nobody knew who Saban was when we hired him and we had heard every name mentioned for the job but Saban. Also, he had gotten obliterated in his three bowl games at Michigan State (including a 38-0 shutout to Stanford), so a lot of people weren't exactly fired up when we got him. Also, DiNardo beat his arse in the Indy bowl. However, it turned out to be our best hire ever.

This is exactly my point Bug EZ! The fans were "meh" with the hire!

So bitching about hiring a guy at DC who has failed at DC at two other places is synonymous with bitching about hiring a guy who was a winner at his last gig?

Saban was 58% at MichSt. Winning? Barely.

I'm not trying to spin anything! Just comparing the reactions. One reaction turned out to be ill founded. The other one is yet to be seen

These people are either too young or too stupid to recall correctly.

You're right. I was at LSU then and the consensus was definitely WTF? although after Dinardo's decline we were happy enough with anything.

Exactly! I hated the Nick Saban hire. We just kicked Saban and Michigan St. arse in the Indy bowl with an average team at best. I'll reserve judgement until end of season. However, he would not have been my pick. Downgrade in my opinion

That's what I think to Ronin! Were old farts! This is a young mans board! LOL! One of the biggest criticisms with the Saban hire was his lack of success barring one good season at MSU. If he couldn't break 60% win pct there then how was he gonna stand a chance in the SEC!
