You would think Raymond isnt going anywhere considering he played here, right?

This makes no sense. Cameron is heavily involved in his recruitment, as Franks has mentioned numerous times. If BDP leaves, we still have plenty of time to keep working on Franks. That is a short-sided view to keep one coach for a specific player when hiring someone else could benefit the program as whole more.

ETA: I realize you also said other recruits, but I just don't think BDP is that instrumental in recruiting in so much that he is irreplaceable with the amount of time to recruit 2016 kids.

And signed an extension. And is going to have outrageous talent to work with next year to attach his name to.

I don't think he'd leave, but who knows with a new DC. If a huge name wanted to coach here and bring his own staff, we might have to let him.

However what I want most is Pendergast/NFL coach (DC), Haley (LB), Orgeron (DL), Raymond stays (DB)

This, I'm down with. Smart doesn't have neer the skins on the wall as pendergast. The other three are solid to great recruiters and coaches.

And, this could have been done weeks ago.

he'll leave eventually when someone hires him as a HC (I think he's the kind of guy who will jump straight to HC before being a coordinator) but not before then

We should give our next DC more $$$ than what Chavis makes.

Let's at least do this

Give a matching offer to Chavis'. And let the players decide it on the field. After we go 11-1, then you can give the new DC a pay raise above Chavis.

I think a capable QB would benefit this program greatly.

I'd take Smart and Orgeron in a heartbeat.

So you'd be OK with arguably the DC in the country and one of the greatest Louisiana recruiters of all time? Good, glad that would get your approval.

Is this a joke? He's a total mystery and a lot of people are against this hire.

Brandon Harris and Anthony Jennings were considered capable before their arrival here too. LSU's ability to identify and coach up QB's are suspect right now. More suspect is Miles' allowing anyone to open up an offense. What happens if you keep BDP and Franks doesn't choose us? You could have upgraded your overall recruiting and arguably defensive coaching but lost out on that for a one specific recruit? Again, to me at least, the overall strength of the program should outweigh one player. IMO, O over BDP all day, everyday.

Maybe LSU loses Franks, maybe they wouldn't.

If he's pushed out by LSU and leaves unhappy, I can't imagine that sitting well with him.

Then I guess his friendship with the Franks family will be tested.

Why not let him go in 3 years if the UGA job opens up? It won't really affect LSU much. We hardly ever play them. And no one really knows if Richt will be gone in 3 years. I would play that game.

Then so be it. One recruit shouldn't hold this hostage.

IF Smart makes the jump its not a money issue

The catalyst is McElwain is now the HC at UF. He left and now look where he is. HC will only be a real possibility if he proves himself apart from Saban. LSU has the talent to give him the opportunity in a reasonably time-frame.
