Bow Hunt Update

I went, saw but did not kill but gosh dang my blood was pumping like never before when that first deer was close!!
Thanks for the counsel and advice last week - I had a ton of fun bow hunting. When the first deer walked though, my heart was jumping out of my chest.
I was shaking so damn bad I could not control it! I have never experienced any hunting like it.
I saw one little buck, a one year old doe and a big old doe. I was going to try to put an arrow in the big doe but the young one busted me - chalk it up to my inexperience. I waited too long to get set for the shot - they were less than 15 yards from me.
I will do this again....one poster was correct - I noticed things that I never notice when gun hunting - it was cool to try to blend in with nature and stay as still as possible.

Pretty much sums up why I'll never gun hunt again.

I have only gun hunted a few times this year. Granted, I haven't killed anything this year but I've had good opportunities. Enjoy the thrill more either way.

I have an ancient Darton. Have towed with the idea of setting it back up. So slow though.

wait until you shoot one. i shot my first deer with a bow last year and it happend to be an 8pt. i was surprised how calm i was during the shot. but soon as the deer ran off and i knew i made the shot... i was shaking uncontrollably. I went home to sit for 2 hrs to give the deer time "i didnt want to mess this up" after an hr and half waiting on couch my wife walked in and looked at me and almost got in a panic and asked was i okay because i was shaking so much. My teeth chattered when i talked, and this was almost 2 hrs after the shot. The adreneline rush was amazing! Good luck

glad you had a great experience
bowhunting is addictive as you will see all kinds of wildlife that you rarely see from a box blind if hunting pipelines. Armadillos or squirrels foraging thru the leaves will make you believe a deer is slowly approaching.
bowhunting will also make you a better hunter as you get to learn animal behavior and hear vocalizations. In early bow season the deer are less wary and you still have some cover (leaves in trees) to increase your success. When the leaves have fallen, you will stick out like a sore thumb and can be easily spotted
I suggest you go on a hog hunt , spot n stalk as you will be hooked for life once you hear that "thwaaaack"

overdraws made us believe our bows were fast when pushing a XX75 2213 superlite at 238 fps
carbon arrows totally changed the scene in the early 90's

just go ahead and get a new bow. they are so much better than they were even 10 years ago. You should be able to catch them on sale now too.

No rule that says you have to sit in a heated box stand to hunt with a gun.
