I see everyone blaming Alleva and Miles, and they both deserve some of the criticisms IMO. However, everyone needs to take a step back and look at the way Chavis departed, and the problems that has created. By allowing all of the extensions to be signed, and then trying to wait until after the bowl game to inform Miles that he was leaving, Chavis really left LSU in a very bad situation.

By informing Miles so late of his decision and allowing his staff to sign extension, he really handcuffed Miles in two ways. First, several viable candidates had already been hired or signed extensions. Leaving LSU with a limited amount of candidates and a limited amount of time to hire a replacement. Second, if a viable candidate was interested, he's essentially tied to the current staff. That's a problem if you want to hire a known commodity, as they generally like to bring in their own guys.

So, in short, Chavis gave LSU a swift kick to the nuts on his way out the door. In my opinion, he handled the situation very unprofessionally, and this has to be mentioned when discussing LSU's current DC search.

They disrespected him by not matching A&M's offer so he left just like you would leave if your boss did the same to you.

Nobody is blameless, but it goes something like this:

Chavis
Sumlin

Alleva

Miles

Compare how our AD handled a competing offer for our DC to how Penn State handled our offer to their DC.

That is your answer for whom is to blame.

Is Miles ever at fault in your mind?
It was Katrina.
It was Jimbo.
It was Maleveto.
It was Crowton.
It was RP.
Now after leading the SEC in defense, its third and Chavis.
Miles is the "best ever" at LSU but the failures are always blamed on others.

The next DC is 0-0. There is no fault.
