Who the frick is JA's agent? I can't see any MLS team laying out that kind of mad cash.
Well - "ask for" and "get" are two different things.
Who starts a negotiation by asking for the bare minimum they're willing to accept?
I don't think Jozy's wrong to ask for Bradley/Dempsey level money, and I don't think it's wrong for an MLS to pay a premium (not necessarily Bradley/Dempsey/Donovan premium, though) for his services. He does offer more for "typical US Soccer fan" than the average player. He'll sell more tickets, jerseys and sponsorships.

Good points all. But if the transfer fee is $10M, which is what I've read, then this just got outrageously expensive.

I agree, but I don't think asking for "in the ballpark" of Bradley's deal is outrageous.
Jozy *is* a big name in US Soccer. He's on posters and soda machines and whatever in schools, he has endorsements, commercials all that hoo-ha. And he's a goal-scorer (in theory ), and younger than Dempsey and Bradley to boot.
For every reason that it's ridiculous to ask for that much, there's an equally compelling reason to pay the man his money.

The MLS would come off even more a mickey mouse outfit to pay 6+ million dollars for a guy with 2 league goals the last two years.
The issue is Sunderland want most of the 7 million pounds the spent on him

Holy shite, if we got anywhere near that for selling Jozy it would make losing him a lot easier to take

Comparing Torres to Jozy shows how out of touch you are

You are the biggest hater, bro.

of what
im just calling a spade a spade
ive been supporting and watching the MLS since season one
but i don't have delusions about what kind of league it is right now or feel its free from being criticized.
The over paying market value for guys is something the league should be criticized on. They set the absurd standard and now everyone will hold them to it.

It's a fair criticism, considering that is one of the main reasons why past leagues in the US dissolved.
Now, the MLS is much more stable than those previous leagues, but that doesn't mean they still shouldn't be so gung-ho with money, especially when it's all league controlled.

Yup with what will seem to be more investment the gloves need to be taken off. Lets clubs operate own their own and the MLS not owning players. Buying players from the MLS is a pain for the clubs in Europe. Its even more absurd when a player is sold and most the money goes to the league and not the club. These are some of the draw backs of the franchise model and why its not used in the rest of the world with soccer.
