State Farm sucks re: med pay.

I didn't respond to you.
Worst thing you could have done was tell OP insurer that OP's act was intentional. Good thing they believed their insured on that one. Insurance covers negligence not intentional acts. Pretty basic stuff.

I don't own or work in a body shop, but have been in the industry for 20+ years.
Seriously, why are you dealing with the insurance company and the collision center isn't.
The collision center's job is dealing with insurance companies on a daily basis. They have office personnel hired exclusively for that task.
I would highly recommend that you find a more professional collision repair facility.

Because I was the one that filed the claim, and they sent the appraiser to my residence to look at the vehicle.

Didn't you get your own estimate done to compare to theirs?

Thanksgiving day an old man hit my car on private property. I called the police and when the showed up they gave us both reports to fill out. The old bastard lied on his and said that I pulled into the lot and hit the rear of his truck with the SIDE of my car. I called my insurance co(state farm) and they said either get his to pay for it or they'll fix it after I fork over the $500 deductible. The old man's insurance (Imperial) refused to pay for the damages, citing the conflicting reports. Sooooo, I have to pay 500 bones after some numbnut hit me. In case I haven't mentioned it...Imperial(must be the margarine people) sucks arse.

Not yet, I was just going to drop it off at the body shop and let them repair it, but I wanted the whole thing repaired not just a portion,

Did you plan on getting a check from the insurance company, then shopping around for a body shop?
Auto insurance companies have become very smart in the last 10 years. Let the body shop deal with them.
If in BR, tell me what part of town you're in and I'll recommend a shop (glad TD is anonymous)
Btw, Us Agencies is the absolute worst insurance agency. They're the company I hear body shop owners complain about the most. Most shops have to wait over a month to collect checks from them. State Farm and others usually pay within 2-3 days.

No, I did not even want the check. Like I said I was going to drop it off at the body shop for them to repair it and be done with it.
FYI, I use Hamptons.

Too late to get your estimate once they perform the repairs. They use their appraiser and the repair shop of their choice unless you are your own advocate.
You should have gotten at least one estimate to compare to theirs. Also would have given more room for argument if your estimates support the back panel argument.
I knew all of that stuff in high school. It's really basic. Not trying to be ugly, but you should have talked to someone or done some googling before you talked to the OP insurer and lost your temper.

They send you the check hoping you'll go away even if the repairs go over.

Insurance compainies can tell you where to get the estimate, but not tell you where to get it repaired. That's highly illegal. It's called insurance steering.

That's why you must be your own advocate. You get independent estimates and compare. If they're over the ins co's estimate, you argue. The general rule I was told was to get 3. You can pick your own shop, but they'll recommend one they like if you don't.

and didn't read all that above but the body shop will request a supplement for repairs if initial check was not sufficient.
also, OP is a needy bitch likely with similar insurance to that of which she is complaining.

There is always tons of insurance advice on the OT, and roughy 4% of the people actually have an idea of how insurance works.
Steering is illegal and no company would want to get stuck with doing that.
Some companies will ask that you go to certain shops for estimates, as that is quicker than waiting on a appraiser most of the time. You (OP) are the owner of the car and can have it repaired where you want.
As far as rental, I'm not surprised you aren't given one immediately as your car may be drivable. Your company may have restrictions on what they provide and/or pay for, but you may be able to be reimbursed for the difference by USAgencies as long as what you rent is comparable to what you drive, in size, not luxury.
The ins co will pay off of their estimate. The shop (of your choice) who does the repairs will follow up with the appraiser for any additional damages that are accident related. This would also include parts price differences, and any additional labor that might be needed.
You may have to pay the deductible to the shop initially, but should be reimbursed by USAgencies for that. Let your ins co worry about whatever is left, they have departments for that.
Yelling, screaming, demanding, etc will do nothing for you. Neither will threatening to hire an attorney, especially if they aren't doing anything illegal.
I may have jumped around a lot bit I'm replying on the whole thread from memory.

And might I add that all of this happened over the holidays and you are trying to get this resolved on the first two days after everyone gets back from the holidays, so there is naturally some delay.
I'll never defend what an insurance company does, but this is the industry this time of year.
