Great work OP.
Only thing further (and not suggesting you do so) would be to expand the number of seasons to guard against the "one hit wonder" element.
Shoop would appear to be a great hire as would Bumpas.

Youve done some very good work here and its very appreciated. In fact,I have new respect for Shoops because of it.
But, u cant just look at the stats and then find the one thing, like recruiting stars to prove your point. Strength of Schedule could turn these numbers a different way just as easy. This is a critical hire and Miles is looking at more than just a guys X&O stats or his recruiting success.
Altho this will open the door, its not what will get the guy hired. He will have to sell himself and his plan during the interview. Miles needs to take his time and interview as many credible candidates as possible, he has to get it right.
He will.

Great work I am a numbers person and I like these sorts of comparisons. Of course, I have absolutely nothing to do with who gets hired.

I believe this is the best guy for us. He is a coach who will produce a fundamentally sound defense. There are many on staff that can recruit. Give me the guy that can coach and cope with Miles.

Wow master you got a lot of free time. Really good stuff I like Shoop and think it would be a home run hire even without Bebe.

Unfortunately, how can you possibly compare them when they play completely different strength of schedules and types of offenses? Did their team control time of possession and limit defensive snaps?
Perhaps a more meaningful analysis would be to compare the defenses against the opposing offenses averages. Say, did he hold them to 100 yards below their average total, did they average only 3.2 yards per play against his defense while averaging 5 yards per play for the season against other power 5 teams, etc.

Shoop or Venables would be great hires. We wouldn't miss a beat on Defense if we got one of these guys.
Don't want him.

Sorry you took offense. Wasn't my intention. Genuinely curious to see which coaches' defenses limited the opposing offenses the most compared to their average performance against other power 5 teams. Just don't want to do it myself.
