Mormons. Will gladly supply you with a copy of The Book of Mormon that the angel Moroni gave to Joseph Smith in upstate NY. However, if you fail to read it for 3-4 months, they take it back(at least that is my experience).

So you're saying they're intelligent about fighting the government, whereas most people who take on the government are forced to just bend over and take it?

But it shouldn't be hard for anyone to see a difference between a religion created 2000 years ago that is a continuation of a religion over 3000 years old that is firmly entrenched in every aspect of our society, and some shite a rich science fiction author made up in our generation.
2,000 years is nothing in relation to how old the earth is. Personally, I think too many of these smaller baptist churches with no affiliation get the non-profit exemption too quickly.

Believing in talking snakes and zombies is ok but believing in aliens is just crazy talk!

I'm sure the people living near the Scientology compound in Clearwater weren't too bothered when Lisa McPherson died either. Out of sight, out of mind, right?

Even when I went to church, my dad and priest used to get pissed when I called Jesus a zombie after he broke out of the tomb.

Talking donkey. not talking snake.

they didn't fight the government, they blackmailed them (and I do mean "them" plurally)
after they had been caught infiltrating them (operation snow white)...admire them, think they're a religion (they're not), do whatever...you have a deep misunderstanding of who they are, what they do, and what they're capable of (infinite resources)....FAIR GAME...that's their code

That's because you've probably never been a member. The videos I've seen are put up by ex-members. They get harassed because they speak out. On the whole, Scientology seems like a "don't start no shite, won't be no shite" group, but if you broadcast negativity, watch out.

Do you really want to go there? I forgot that Christianity has zero blood on it's hands. Maybe if we give Scientology a couple thousand of years it'll catch up.

Why is the age of the Earth relevant?
2,000 is a pretty big chunk of recorded human time, and the majority of the establishment of our entire existing society took place within that time frame. So it's not hard to see why people would continue to participate in this aspect of human culture.

I don't know why they're being compared to religion...for one they charge a fee for a service they provide...non negotiable. Secondly, they offer no explanations or anything for the beginning of life, existence, etc...they're a church without a god, etc....they just want to tell people why they're feeling sad...the explanation is ludicrous, but that is not what is objectionable about scientology
Posted on 1/5/15 at 2:23 pm to DelU249
Every organization, religion and person has negative attributes. Doesn't make the entity as a whole negative.

will people opine about anything? The objection to Scientology has nothing to do with aliens, xenu, thetans, etc...it's the organizational structure, strategy, practices, ethics, etc...

I'm not defending Christianity or its history.
I'm defending the Christians of the 21st century. I think Christianity's story is just as ludicrous as Scientology's is, but there's a world of difference in why someone would believe in Christianity vs. Scientology when you throw in sociological factors.

What about Baptist and other Protestant branch offs, are those less important because they are only 700 years old?
