Auto repair question re: mechanic diagnostic

I failed emissions. I know the obd code (p0421) and the listed reasons for the obd code for my make. If I take it to a mechanic, dealer or otherwise, and pay for a diagnostics, will they tell me anything more specific than the obd code and potential causes publishes for the obd code?

I don't want to pay $115 for them to just tell me what the obd code "usually" means.

I think that you can just put some STP in the gas and it will be fine.

IIRC, that's either an o2 sensor or bad cat. How many miles do you have?

had same problem on my truck took it to get inspected told me emmissions were bad. took it to place in addis cant remember name but told dude look man give me an inspection sticker he hookd me up thats your best bet is to find someone to give you a sticker otherwise mechanics gonna rape you i don't trust them its a racket

Have you taken it somewhere like autozone to let them dump the codes? They may be able to tell you something more specific....
