There was smoke saying he was going to aTm with Chavis. ..

However, the news that most concerned him was whether or not Tigers defensive line coach Brick Haley would be leaving as well.

Phillips seemingly put LSU firmly back in the mix hours later on Twitter when he said that Haley "isn't leaving."

LSU defensive line coach Brick Haley will reportedly be coming over with Chavis in some capacity.

A&M says he's gone

Signed by LSU. Not sure how he could just up and leave unless LSU gave the okay.

He signed his contract extension but supposedly there's an easy out for him to get out of the contract or aTm could pay the buyout for him.

I thought those extensions were only through March.

Buy out would not be a big deal.

Haley reportedly still weighing offers right now between LSU and A&M. A bidding war of sorts for him.

If he doesn't want to be here, let him go. As an LSU fan, I want people here who want to be here.

After an 8-5 season, .500 SEC record and three consecutive seasons of declining SEC win totals, LSU doesn't need to stroke the ego of any coach on its 2014 staff. If A&M wants to give these people more money and years, let 'em walk.

Furthermore, if it means the defense slips, then that puts the pressure on the head coach get his act together and get the offense to lift its performance. Find a competent quarterback and trust him. If he can't do it and we go through a losing season that hastens his departure, so be it.

You can't blame a man for trying to better his family situation. If you were in the same situation you would be doing the same thing Haley is doing looking at the bottom line.

No argument there. So he should go. LSU should not match just to keep him happy for his family or anything else. Pass rush was non-existent this year and we routinely got gashed up front in several games this year. Program is bigger than one or two people. So long.

You really think he doesn't have a good situation with the money he makes here?

He can leave. Maybe the next D-line coach can get the players at DE to get a sack.

It's not 2014-15 these guys are worried about its 2016, 2017, etc. Longterm stability is something these assistant coaches are currently concerned about. Fulmerization of LSU is the term that has been used over and over again.

Exactly! So if he wants more, let him walk. Don't let the door hit his arse on the way out.

Absolutely. People act like we're losing Saban or the architect of the Steel Curtain. Chavis is good, not great. Same with Haley.

And that's probably why LSU wanted the Miles exit clause in Chavis' contract. They want the flexibility not to get stuck paying off assistants in case Miles leaves or is shown the door. That's what happened to Tennessee.

I don't begrudge the assistants for trying, but LSU shouldn't cave. These coaches have produced declining results for three years. They don't deserve stability here. Maybe that's the problem, that the staff has been too comfortable.

All I know is that when your staff is the highest-paid in the country, your record should be better than 8-5, .500 in the SEC and fifth in a seven-team division.
