I watched a youtube of that 33 Anchor Anne L'Heureux.(from the Jeanne Burns thread) and have two questions about this link:
Youtube of Anne L'Heureux NBC33 broadcast from 1983
1. What was the controversial project in Southdowns area she talks about?
and
2. Where was this Travel Lodge hotel in BR? I googled the murder trial she mentioned(Leigh Burton shot her husband Richard) and i'm intrigued now.

FACTS
On the afternoon of June 29, 1983, defendant went to the Travelodge Motel lounge in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after calling the victim and asking him to meet her there. She arrived at approximately 4:00 p.m. but stayed for only a few minutes and then returned at approximately 4:30 p.m. She took a seat at the bar and told the bartender that she was meeting someone. Another customer introduced defendant to the bartender and ordered a beer for her. A few minutes later the victim walked into the bar, exchanged pleasantries with one or two other patrons and sat down next to her.
Defendant testified that they began discussing an argument that had occurred the previous evening concerning the victim's involvement with another woman. During that argument, the victim had taunted defendant with the words ". . . would you like for me to tell you how good her pussy was?" Defendant asked him if he would like to tell her again how good his girlfriend's pussy was. She testified that he laughed and said, "You want to talk about that again." Defendant testified that at that time she shot him with a gun she had purchased earlier that day.
Several patrons at the bar were eyewitnesses to the shooting. One witness testified that, after the shooting, defendant calmly walked out of the bar. She was seen getting into an automobile and driving away. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital and underwent surgery which was unsuccessful. He died early on June 30, 1983.
The police located defendant in a hospital on the day following the shooting. She had attempted suicide with an overdose of drugs. When she was released from the hospital, she was arrested for the murder of her husband.

sounds like she was in the right and he was in the wrong and he got what he deserved.

I don't know, but one thing this video does is prove Southdowns had been a pain in the arse since at least 1983.

I don't remember this at all.

Well I found where she was only sentenced to 15 years in prison or so. I imagine she's a free woman today. Question 2b would be something like "Where is she now?"
I'm curious about Southdowns as well. Would that have been one of the overpass bars or something? The caterie and southdowns bar were both around back then by 83.

Wasn't that the name at the time of the hotel at Acadian off I-10?

Nah. Sleeping with another woman doesn't justify death. Now if he did more sinister things such as assault rape etc then yeah.

Ahhh yes it could be. I've actually drank at that bar in college(forget what hotel was called in 90s).

Maybe. I'm pretty sure there used to be a hotel behind the Waffle House on College Dr. too. think it was a Howard Johnson's when I was a kid in the '70s, but for some reason I thought it changed to a Travelodge at one point.

honestly the guy was a POS to cheat on his wife and then openly taunt her like that. I have no problem with her blowing him away on the spot.

I think you are right. People will not believe this but HoJo had the best hamburgers in town

There was definitely a hotel there.
Sidenote: I used to park there and stalk my ex gf who had just got a job hostessing at the 'brand new to BR' Hooters. She be like "I'm going home after my shift." Needless to say I busted her easily cheating(leaving with some dudes from the restaurant and going to bars) and ended that shite.

When was that retirement village built at the corner of Lee & Perkins? That might not seem too controversial but zoning regulations may have had to change to allow apartments there. (Although the small apartments on Perkins across from Mary Lee seem to have been there much longer.)

Very good call. Maybe that's it. I remember that place being brand new as a kid.

Well it wasn't stalking if I was just verifying my suspicions, you old judgey frick. I wasn't always an adulterous heathen. I was a naïve idealistic college kid who voted for Cleo Fields around that time.
