Meh. I'm not insulted when I go to the public basketball courts and everyone assumes they shouldn't pick me cause I'm short.
So you are equating being black in the professional world with being short on the basketball court? Careful now.
quote:
Um. That's silly. Even BLACKS think successful blacks may have gotten there via quotas, tokenism etc etc.
Ok, and? There are also whites who believe they, as well as other whites, have gotten where they have gotten in life partly due to white privilege. Does that make it any more valid?

well to be fair, being short does severely limit/destroy your chances of being in that professional world

You're trying to convince white people who call other white people "racist" against white people, what constitutes racism. You're spinning your wheels. I mean just look at this thread and the Pope/GW thread. Ignorance is bliss.

that thread is arguing about race?

Yea, my point is that being short is an inherent physical defect that severely decreases ones chances of making it as a bball player. To equate that with being black in the professional world, you are obliterating the "hard work/personal responsibility" angle unless you believe someone 5'6" has just as good a shot at making the NBA as someone with Shaq's size.

I've been teaching elementary school in South Alabama for 21 years. I've always made it a real point of emphasis to teach my children about slavery and black history. Every year I've expounded on the leadership of Dr. King, the bravery of Ruby Bridges, the resolve of Rosa Parks and the genius and passion of George Washington Carver, etc. Earlier in my career I had children who were proud of their heritage and who were interested in the leaders of the black community. No more. I have 19 children, 15 black, 1 Hispanic, 3 white. None of my children care about school except for one little black girl who I want so much to see succeed as she deserves. I'm doing my best to honor her self motivation, but the support from home isn't there.
My own child went to this school. When he graduated six years ago the valedictorian was a black friend of his. Her parents were awesome. They parented children, not "black children".
Teachers are critically important in the classroom, but if you put the same capable teacher in 4 different schools, you will get 4 different results. Parents are a child's first teachers and a staggering percentage of our parents are failing miserably at providing their children with anything beyond food, clothing, and shelter. No one shares thoughts, reads, motivates. They just exist. I'm heartbroken for my children. They deserve so much more.

Nope. Us whites never assume that the white doctor got through medical school because he was white.

Low IQ is an inherent physical defect that severely decreases ones chances of making it as a doctor.

Oh I didn't realize you spoke for every single white person in America.

Horribly written column.

I can loiter in a poor, black neighborhood and the police will be very likely to ask what I am doing there. Is that racism too?
Hell, I can go visit an elderly relative in a black neighborhood and get accosted by the cops as a white man...mentioned this in another thread but I promise it isn't just the blacks who get harassed. I mean if the author of this article spent more time being constructive and solving problems that actually exist rather than bitching about problems many of us face or are self inflicted wounds...he'd be happier, less bitter, and might be part of the solution. Shocking I know...

That and the friends his son will probably gravitate to by the aura he puts out...it's one heck of a cycle that has to be broken but chances are it won't be when you're always the victim!

If that's your idea of a rebuttal I suggest you not go into the medical field at all. Check that, you might make a decent phlebotomist.

And, I'm correct. So, there's that.
