I can't believe how many posters willingly stick their heads in the sand about the talent/results conundrum. We lost two games in 2006 with the best talent in the country, but at least that year we looked the part. We finished the year unbelievably hot, and it realistically looked like a fluke that we lost two games. The same can't be said for 2013, or 2012. Those teams limped to the finish. The 2012 team was ultra-talented on defense, yet Miles would rather play turtle on offense and tried to win every game 9-6. The 2013 offense looked explosive until we played Florida at home. Inexplicably Miles reverted back to playing turtle on offense and the numbers back it up. We took the air out of the ball starting with the Florida game. Alabama gave up about 42 points to A&M last year, 17 to LSU. Our offense didn't do their part in Tuscaloosa last year.

And still a 5-3 record in SEC play
It's okay since it was the defense that squandered the best offense in LSU history

Somebody told me LSU broke almost every LSU offensive record last year and had the best 3rd down offense in the Country. I guess the best offense in LSU history just don't explain it enough. Oh well rantards gonna rant
The best offense in school history was barely a top 20 total offense for that year as far as NCAA rankings go.
LSU had star power on that offense. That group of guys shouldn't have broke records, but destroyed them. They had the talent, abilities, and opportunity. What they lacked was a great game plan week in and week out. No offensive adaptation.
The game plan is still the same. Those guys were just better.
Just sayin..

Yet everyone wants to line up to blow chief because of this year.
Seems like we are never in sinc with our offense and defense.

offense wasn't as great as some think it was last year. Compare the rankings of how each unit finished nationally and tell me if you think we overachieved defensively and underachieved offensively.

9 times out of 10 he gets it right so I'll give him a pass. Our offense, however, comes through on that 1 out of 10. I guess it's kind of lucky in a sense though because we probably don't make a bowl with last year's defense and this year's offense

Do you realize how little total offense has to do with actually winning games? It's well down the list. The offense was sixth in the country in passing efficiency and first in third-down conversions, which are both much greater predictors of winning than total offense.
As for coaching, I'd argue that the rookies are having such great success because, in addition to their excellent individual talents, their season in Cam's system made the transition for them much easier. They've all alluded to that fact. Jeremy Hill said it was extremely easy because Hue Jackson and Cam coached with one another.

can't the same be said for defense? isn't it about how many points you allow?

Do any of you get that the point wasn't to bad mouth Les but merely to state we have good people.

Yes, total offense and total defense is one of the most overvalued statistics in football.

quote:Yeah, that is a play that is sure hard to swallow. Beckham has such good ball skills and catches darn near everything in sight and he muffs that damn punt. Just a heart-breaking play. Not that LSU would have won the game if he catches that punt, but it was a huge turnover. And to top it off, because we lost that game, all the Miles haters want to put the loss squarely on his shoulders.
it would have helped a lot had OBJ not dropped a punt on our 20 yard line at UGA

The SEC had 49 players drafted. It is not like we had this team and didn't win the SunBelt.
Bama had 8, Arky 4, Auburn 4, Florida 4, Georgia 2, Aggies 3, State of MS 2.

I agree. I was at the Ole Miss game frustrated as anybody that Mett kept throwing into double coverage especially when the underneath stuff and running game was wide open. IMO, that game was on him. Otherwise, the defense was leaky. Couldn't get a stop when needed time and time again.
Didn't Hill get benched due to an early fumble also. Gave that game away.

Plus we play in the SEC WEST!! If we would get to play FSU schedule every year we would never lose

It was a joke and also a reference to a South Park episode.

Yes... yes I do. But it is a handy tool when you're trying to guage the success of your program's offense when compared to others.
