Saints OL problems go beyond current players...

I believe our current OL ineptitude goes way beyond the poor play of our current players. Everyone wanting the Saints to spend all of their early picks on OL, need to recognize that until the Saints can better scout these positions, we shouldn't spend early picks here. I think our inability to scout OL is the main contributor to the underachievement and possibly ending of our run.
Just look at all the missed draft picks:
Matt Tennant - 4th round (traded up for I Believe)
Charles Brown - 2nd round
Andrew Tiller - 5th round
Marcel Jones - 6th round (Maybe 7th?)
Terron Armstead - 3rd round
Tavon Rooks - 6th round
With the exception of Armstead, these are all missed picks that could have provided quality depth or younger more cost efficient starters. Do we see any changes with the Saints player personnel dept? Is there any accountability here? Thoughts?

Armstead has a bright future
Tennant was a miss
Brown didn't develop that well
The rest are 5th and below... you are not including ones we've hit the jack pot on.

I wouldn't really describe this as a fair assessment.
Oh, they didn't hit on their 6th round picks.
Ok?

Ok, what picks did we hit on?
Evans - 4th round
Bushrod?
Strief - 6th round
Those are further back. Recently we have not had this success. Did we have a change in scouting since these picks? I also don't think its acceptable to routinely miss on picks in the 5-7th round. I always hear the draft experts talking about this is where your roster depth is built. Well not for the Saints in recent years. We consistently blow these picks and wonder why we have no depth and overpaid underachieving veterans.

Tennant and Brown were definitely misses. And while I agree with the guys above me that you shouldn't put much stock into the guys taken in the 5th or later, for a team that prides itself in finding late round gems, they have missed on a lot of o-linemen.
The approach needs to be different for the next few years by picking linemen earlier on. I'm not sure about taking one in the 1st this year, but 2nd-4th needs to address the position. Scouts, coaches, GM all need to do a better job of evaluating talent.

Especially on defense.

5th round. Im not saying we miss on every pick. I am saying we miss on more than we hit on in recent years.

Blah, blah, we're bad, oline, cant draft, fire payton, jimmys soft, brees contract, interceptions, jimmy johns, vicodin, goodell, cap hell, loomis……

It has more to do with the poor coaching at the position than anything.
The whole OL has regressed, and we saw it last year with DLP. Once Kromer left, he completely fell off for nearly an entire season.
Ingalls is simply put a horrible OL coach, at least in the sense that while our OT play improved, the inside play along the OL didn't just get worse, it became some of the worst in the league.
It's not a surprise that the RB play, particularly with Ingram also improved once Ingalls was no longer RB coach.

You do realize that this is a message board where you discuss the current happenings of a sports team right? Everything you mentioned other than "Fire Payton, Jimmys soft, and Jimmy Johns" are valid discussion topics for the Saints right now.

And brees' kids and gingers plane.

I blame this season on Patrick O RlY for abandoning us after the Alanta loss in the first game.

The only one you could call an issue is Charles Brown. Some of your draft rounds are off as well.
Most of those draft picks went into finding a LT/RT. Strief is one of the higher rated RTs on a cheap contract for the rest of his career here.
Armstead has a very bright future on this team as a LT and going into the season did exceptionally well throughout the playoffs in 2013.
Matt Tennant was drafted in the 5th round in 2010 for a 4th round in 2011, he was the 2nd highest rated center after Pouncey that year.
Andrew Tiller was a 6th round pick, guard, in 2012 when we had 2 solid probowl caliber guards.
Marcel Jones was a 7th round pick in 2012. Tackle, so it doesn't matter when Armstead came in.
Tavon Rooks was a 6th round pick this year. no clue how he'll pan out. maybe he'll end up replacing strief since he's supposedly good at run blocking and pass protection as well.

You're less likely to miss on a first round OL than a late round OL. Even if you don't get the guy that has the best career you'll probably get a guy that's pretty good.
