No. EBR got its panties in a wad that people and tax dollars wanted to leave.

Media stories were run that St. George is a racist movement. That is fricking despicable. You know God forbid people want a better education for their children. You have a city like Baton Rouge that has a very large minority percentage with failing schools and violence. Why would anyone want to send their kid to those shitty public schools that have no accountability and constantly lie and fudge numbers?

It is despicable that any residents living there have to pay taxes to fund EBR schools, and still pony up more cash to send their kid to a high dollar private school just so they can get an education worth a shite.

EBR should have let them have a school district and this shite never would have gotten to this point.

Reames239, you are buying into the lies of the St. G leaders.

Lie #1, Ebrpss is the worst, most dangerous school district in the country.

Fact, Ebrpss is ranked in the middle of state rankings and ranks in the top 25% of large urban districts nationally.

Lie #2, you can not get a quality education in Ebrpss.

Fact, Ebrpss has consistantly produced more National Merit and Advanced Placement scholars than all of the ISDs and private schools in EBR combined.

Lie #3, taxes won't go up.

Fact, The state constitution will require the area to continue to fund parish offices as well as establish several municipal offices. More govt= more taxes.

Also, the individual school scores have not improved (considering overall growth in ebr and state scores) since leaving ebr. Central High and Zachary High were both A schools when they were in Ebrpss.

Frontline is a liberal outlet. They only have one speed-and that's a Hate Whitey Narrative. It was unfair and typical knee-jerk liberalism and it sucked. But please don't presume to speak for everyone. I live in the area , have three kids in the "shitty public schools" , am VERY pleased with their progress, and want them to stay where they are thriving now.

I agree. The cost of private schools is a real setback for non-affluent parents and it disrupts neighborhood cohesiveness, to boot. It would also be nice if many parents committed to reforming the neighborhood public schools instead of sending their kids to private schools, as well. But I scoff at the notion that St. George will be any better than those schools already are. Especially when you factor in FLIGHT into "St George" from those areas. And then you factor in the collapse of EBR schools after all their better schools are yanked away. And then you factor in huge new infrastructure costs and rising taxes.

St. George is truly a LOSE-LOSE for those of us who live here. I support reform and tiered schools which establish more magnet schools and more "disciplinary schools", where the worst kids are aggressively removed from the kids who want to learn.

As always, vote your conscience and do what you think is best. But don't presume to speak for me.
