Do you think the wedding bubble is going to burst?

I play music for wedding ceremonies, and yesterday, I got a gig for spring that pays $450. I'll practice maybe an hour the day before the wedding and will spend three hours of a Saturday driving to, setting up, performing, and packing up at the place.
I typically charge $350 for a wedding, but since it was a Saturday I did not particularly want to work, I upped the price just to see if she'd bite.
She said she was expecting more and that I was a few hundred cheaper than the violinist/cello duo she was also considering.
How much longer will people pay these prices?
I have a few buddies that have talked about purchasing a farmhouse that has a few acres that would be ripe for a wedding venue. Whenever I think about getting involved in investing in it, I think about how ridiculous the prices are and wonder if it would really be a good long term investment.

As long as people imagine they are in love and paying money for a wedding is a symbol of that love, that bubble won't burst.
Nice work, bro.

Not sure, but the better half has 22 weddings booked next year for 3500-5500.

Wedding planner?
I'd love to get into it, honesty. After seeing how it all works from an insider's point of view - as long as you have an eye for decor and good customer service/people skills, you can be really successful. Also need to find the location that makes for good pictures.
Of course, being in charge of weddings in the fall would blow monkey balls. Too many missed football games.

As far as a time commitment, they are getting off cheap with you as a musician. As noted above, photographers and videographers are just stupid expensive.
The whole thing cracks me up. The cakes, expensive rings, dress, and the goddamned overpriced reception halls going for $50/person on up for the average reception.
My friend is in the cake side of the business and I see some crazy stuff with the wedding cakes and grooms cakes.
The bubble will not burst until the economy tanks.

I like my price being competitive. Gets me more business I think. There are a lot of instrumentalist guitar players available, and I get about 12 weddings a year for side cash. Honestly wouldn't want much more than that.
And like you said, the whole thing is ridiculous. The fact that I was able to just throw up a more expensive number for the hell of it and have them say "ok" is amazing. No one has any idea how much these services are actually worth.

So, 22 works days for a full time salary. I'm in the wrong profession.

As soon as gay marriage is legalized in Alabama, I'm going to advertise on a billboard. Haha.

With the average age for first time weddings getting older, I only see it getting worse.

I'm not paying for it so I don't care.
When/if I do have to pay for it I'm going to be a bit of a bastard about it

Yeah. I know your type. You'll pick me.
Because when you're shopping around, you'll think, "So I have to pay someone hundreds of dollars to play ten songs at the most for an hour? That most people won't even really listen to?"
And the guy with the long hair, classical guitar, and fancy website is charging $800.
And me - the regular SEC-football fan looking Joe with a Taylor and average website - is charging $350.
And we both have great reviews.
You'll pick me.
