Parents heading there tomorrow for my brother's child being born. Maybe I was mistaken but I thought I remember seeing a discussion about a new route through Mobile to avoid the tunnel and traffic. Was I correct? If so, what is it? If I was dreaming, please go back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I wouldn't think there would be much traffic tomorrow.

There's a new route from I-10 to Orange Beach/Gulf Shores that bypasses Hwy 59.

Theare are two additional routes through Mobile I know of besides the I-10 tunnel. There is the US 98 tunnel just to the north (which is much worse than I-10) and there is the US 90 bridge a couple of miles north.

The only way around Mobile would be the ferry at Dauphin Island. Going through Mobile would be much quicker than that.

There are plans (dreams) to replace the tunnel route. That and the new Miss River Bridge in BR will happen about the same time.

The Saturday after Thanksgiving I made it from Baton Rouge to Pensacola in 3 hours. You want a quicker way than I-10?

So you averaged 87 miles an hour for 240 miles of interstate.

December 18th on a fricking Thursday shouldn't be a problem at all for tunnel traffic

May have a new bridge in 6-10 years, too.
