It's not simply a matter of getting over it. It's the opposition to policies that continue to stifle individual self-determination, implemented by people who are still in power. Why reward the Cuban government for their oppressive, failed system?

Why continue to punish them and ourselves for another decade when it isn't working?

If we believe capitalism and liberty will trump other economic systems and governments, let those ideologies do their thing.

we don't just "believe it" we know it,,, but we are doing nothing to promote capitalism/liberty by doing this, but continue to believe the bs Obumhole is shoveling, if it makes you feel better.

how are we punishing ourselves exactly? all they have is sugar cane and cigars, both of which leftwing govt has deemed as "bad", so we are doing ourselves a favor (according to you morons).

ed system' we have ever had semi-normalized relations with.

So we should reward them, enabling them to continue being oppressive?

Or we could ease them out of the Communist era by opening up capitalist opportunities to their citizens. Was this your philosophy with the Soviet bloc and East germany too? We should have ignored and isolated them forever?

Fidel Castro has been on record as saying the "Cuban model has failed." They are obviously willing to change for the greater good. Are you not willing to meet them halfway?

Look south and you will see what happened to the lovely beaches of the Yucatan peninsula, especially Cancun. Big tourist boom in the 80s and 90s, deteriorating infrastructure and increasing crime now. I don't know many people who still go there. Like I said, once the novelty wears off, people will go elsewhere. Tropical beaches look a lot like each other; I know because I've actually traveled and seen them. Have you?!?!

that's not the fault of either the beaches, the weather or the tourists, it's the fault of that govt for being corrupt. You are right this won't fix corrupt govt in Cuba and nothing is really going to change. It's all about "feeling better about yourself" which is what politicians, esp liberal ones, are about.

Again, they have not and are not changing any of their policies. We're just giving their government money. Their citizens have no more opportunities today than they did yesterday.

Well, they have no reason to change now.

I live 10 min from the beach in Florida. And you know I've seen boom towns and projects fail around here as well.
Why should they not have a chance like we have had?
You say no because it might fail?
They live in poverty. I think they would try anything to raise their SOL. It may help and it may not but who are we to deny them the opportunity as well as their Govt to change in ways as yet unseen?

You seem to have chips in this game.

Do you wish to embargo China?

How are those ideologies going to "do their thing" when they aren't allowed to exist?

Thank god we didn't extend that logic to East Germany.

would they try overthrowing a dictatorship?

Sound like living "10 min from the beach" doesn't actually make you any more knowledgeable than anyone else.

Not just people, but self-described capitalists

News flash: the Castro regime is on life support. Once those two croak, the doors will open immensely.
