Does it offend you when people say/write 'Xmas'

For some reason this really bothers me. It seems this is the first year I've actually heard a few people refer to Christmas as 'Xmas' in conversation as well.

What thinks the OT?

It shouldn't. It is a traditional theological abbreviation.

Gosh, I sure hope not. I'll use 'Xmas' in a quick text especially since Xmas is getting close and I'm talking about it more.

It used to bother me, not offend me, until I learned that X in the original Greek, was a letter that was referring to Jesus

Kind of weird. Same amount of syllables just to say it correctly.

Offend, not by contemporary meaning, but it does annoy or bother a little bit, especially in conversation although I don't think I've ever heard someone say it in my life.

What bothers me is that the Christmas isn't pronounced ChrIst-mas.

How did it go from chrIst to chrYst? Doesn't make any fricking sense IMO.

"X" comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word ???st?? which comes into English as "Christ".

So, no.

Someone saying "Xmas" in normal conversation? Yeah, that's strange & I'd probably ask why they were saying it that way. It takes the same amount of time & energy to say "X" as it does "Christ." ... If even speaking the word "Christmas" with Christ included bothers them so much, they don't need to be worried about the holiday at all, Christmas or Xmas.

I've always wondered about this too. Maybe I'll research it one day. ... So many questions; so little time.

Doesn't bother me, but I'm an atheist. I call it Santamas and I love the holiday. I still enjoy the specials that focus on "the message," like The Little Drummer Boy. Can't wait to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra on Wednesday night, because that really gets my blood pumping in in Santamas mode.

It offends me that they don't say Festivus.
