Looking for empty beer kegs

Made a few calls in town, no luck.
Might check out some country bars to see if they have any. Should I try contacting a beer distributor?
I'm trying to keep the cost low to the ground as well. Thanks in advance.

Have a kegger pay the keg deposits and keep the kegs.

You just have to find someone with kegs and pay the full refund deposit they usually receive.
But some distributors are sticklers for getting their kegs back from retailers.
Shouldn't be too hard, you might be better off finding a day after kegger in Baton Rouge and asking to take their kegs off their hands for the deposit. Saves them having to return them.

I bought one at Goody Goody a large liquor store in the dallas area. I cut the bottom out to make a turkey cooker.
They had a key on the cash register programmed so they took credit card. Just paid $25 dollar deposit.

That's because the kegs belong to the breweries. Keg deposits usually don't cover the cost of a new keg. Deposits are usually set higher than the scrap value, but lower than the actual value.

Should I contact a brewery?

Hokus Pokus Liquor store on Country Club Road in Lake Charles should sell you one. They were $55 2 years ago.

I've seen some made into bar-b-q pits too.

I highly doubt you find one legally for a cheap price. Craigslist typically works. But the keg belongs to the brewery and they are not going to let them go. Not returning the keg after a party is the easiest but you are stealing the keg. Now most people don't have a problem with this just not returning them, but it's not like you aren't breaking the law.

When I worked for the local distributor we charged a 30 dollar deposit fee. Once we got our empties back we would refund the $30.

Last event I had they scanned my liscense and scanned the kegs. I asked and they said it was a new procedure and that the government was worried about kegs being used as bombs. This was about 3 wks ago.

A brewery won't give you one. They are likely already short on the actual cost of the keg.

The only way to get an empty keg is to rent one from albertsons or other places where they sell kegs and drink it then you just keep them until its time to fill it up again.

Why would a bar give you an empty keg?

I'm going to use the kegs for strongman training in my growing backyard gym.
