Gas prices in Oregon

We Oregonians are too stupid to pump our own gas. We pay for it at the pump. This is how we "create jobs".
Prices in Oregon flucuate wildly - even from station to station. If you're visiting, you'd best pay attention to where the best prices are, or you could end up paying way to much at the pump - could be the cost of lunch.
This picture was taken this morning. Two gas stations that are right next to each other.
Note: Fred Meyer is like Walmart with a little more class. We don't have Walmarts in the greater Portland area (other than a few of those neighborhood markets). There are full-sized Walmarts out in the state, though.

I was in Alaska last year and all of the Fred Meyer employees were striking.

Kroger bought them out a few years ago, they aren't the same anymore.

A co-worker filled up at Sam's Club last night for $1.99/gal. No idea if it was a one-time promotional deal or something, but

Your speed limits suck too.
Good thing it's such a beautiful place.

Chevron always seems to be higher, everywhere.

And to the OP: Changing to self service won't lower the prices.

Think our cheapest here is $3.65

Interesting map from gasbuddy.
Can you spot the states with greater taxes and/or regulations on gasoline?

Brings back memories from my years in Beaverton.

I've never been to a full service gas station where the prices weren't higher than everywhere else.
Do you really think that labor cost isn't added in to your gas prices? That seems like an incredibly silly position to take.

New Jersey and Oregon are the only 2 states where you can't pump your own. The reason our gas is still cheaper for full service is that it's the ONE tax in NJ that hasn't been raised through the roof. The gasoline retailers' assoc. has lobbied to keep the taxes low, because people like full service at low prices. If the tax went up, people would THINK they could get lower prices for self-serve, and then the jobs would be lost. Problem is, prices would NOT go down for self serve. I am thrilled to have someone else pump my gas here in NJ..I don't have to get out in the rain or snow, and have my hands smell like gas..I hope this never changes while I'm still living here!

Wow. You really think the labor cost for the guy pumping your gas isn't included in your gas prices. How ridiculously absurd.

where do you get that out of my post? Of course it is. But our prices remain lower than other states because our tax is lower. Where did I say otherwise?

It would have to be more than that. Consider the time it takes to fill your vehicle, and factor in the cost of the labor for that time, plus the cost of the attendant for sitting around waiting for someone to drive up.

Back when the illustrious Gov. Corzine proposed self-service, his experts estimated NJ drivers could save 5 to 7 cents per gallon with self serve. WOW!!! for a nickel a gallon, a whole DOLLAR on a tankful, I'm not willing to put people out of work AND stand in the rain pumping my own gas.
