yeah, but bigger ball = bigger hole. I'm not talking about force as they are the same
I like shooting the .45 better and the hole is bigger though perhaps the difference is immaterial to some.
also, on the subject of capacity, 7+1 isn't something to shake a stick at and you can always carry another magazine, single stack mag makes it slimmer, the slide on those things is so trim...I think if you blend it all together, it's a great if not ideal carry gun
essentially, I agree, it's up to the user. I would urge the OP to find something that is comfortable though...my first CC purchase I didn't keep that in mind, though it wasn't bad...I slipped on a single stack mag and aaah, so much better

I say replace the PM9 with two CM9s.
Only real downside to the Kahr is the trigger. But, it is better to take a more powerful cartridge to the gunfight.

If I had to take .380, it would be the smallest i could find....maybe a Ruger LCP.
Ruger - same issue with the trigger, although I don't have as much experience with the little Rugers.
Speaking of which - for the OP, what's wrong with the Ruger LCR? You can get it in .357 (in which I would mainly carry .38 +P), no training, slide issues, very low maintenance, - probably your safest option in a pocket holster. The cylinder does tend to print a little bit and you're limited to 5 rounds.
But, for the purpose of use, I like an old fashioned wheelgun for SHTF gun.

45s also give you a very low capacity in a compact gun.
Bap - my P245 has 6+1 capacity (Mrs. Midnight's 627 holds 8 ) and I hated to take the old, spent trijicons off - as I couldn't miss with it.
Lot to be said for 7 hits, as opposed to any number of misses with the Wonder Nines...

Yea if we're talking strictly FMJ, I'll take 45. But for modern JHPs, the playing field is leveled a bit. Both are still great options though.

True but my double stack 9mm carries 12+1.

Agreed that hits are more important than misses but I guess my personal philosophy is to prepare for the worst. I don't know if I would confidently be able to hit well with just 7 shots in ANY given situation. The last 5 could be the difference between me living and dying.
Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

I carry a S&W shield 9mm or an M&P 9c. They are both easy to carry very reliable and are very accurate. I like Glocks but for some reason I shoot the M&P series guns much better. Make sure whatever you decide to carry that you are 100% comfortable with its reliability and your ability to hit your target.

Agree, but after 200 rounds, it's second nature to know when the break is.

I'll amend my "scratch guns w/ external safeties" comment to add the following (which I was already presuming): "unless the Op's GF is are going to practice a lot with her handgun."
I have seen lots of people forget to disengage their gun's safety at handgun matches. Under stress, people revert to their training and/or to strongly ingrained habits.
1. Most women do not practice much -- if any.
2. If she isn't going to practice, she really should have a "point & shoot" gun. (Unless you or she is gonna fiddle with the gun, and I think I covered that in my first post).
3. And since both guns should have similar operating controls and similar manuals of arms, neither should have an external safety.
Regarding the subsequent suggestions that you get .45 ACP's -- ignore that, too. The people telling you about the "bigger holes" are referring to holes in paper targets. Today's really good 9mm ammo makes significantly bigger holes in people than does the average .45 h.p. round. And as was pointed out, most CCW handguns will hold fewer .45 rounds than 9mm rounds.
Finally -- quit looking for advice on an internet forum. Most of us know very little about self-defense handguns, and some of us know a lot less than that.

Bapple,
Kel-Tec p11
Instead of starting a new thread, what is your opinion on Kel-Tec in general?
A 14 oz double stack 9mm is awfully light. And I don't mind recoil so much; nor do I mind less pretty machining and plastic molding (Ruger tends to make some of the same handguns as Kel Tec but seemingly better aesthetics). But is quality a concern with Kel-Tec?
ETA: Also, what is your Youtube Channel name again?

I've also never heard of a 3 in 1911 style pistol that wasn't pretty finicky.

It really depends on what it is, but for the most part they try to make guns "affordable" which means they use cheaper materials. It may not directly translate to "cheap" but they feel that way.

I would probably read some reviews from owners of Keltec guns. A great resource is actually Bud's Gun Shop. They let their customers review guns they buy from them. If someone has issues with their gun, they are a lot more likely to be honest on the internet.
Read reviews from real users, not from magazines that review products they advertise. They never seem to be critical enough.

I'm with you. Most women will actually carry their pistol in their purse. Have you ever looked in one of those things? There is shite EVERYWHERE! Even in a holster, I vote a pistol with a safety. I love my P238 and P938. Great guns. Get HER comfortable with it. What you think about her carry gun means nothing. She needs to be comfortable and well practiced with it.

And in a defense scenario a .380 will kill a man dead. Period.

Thanks for all the information. I learned about a lot of guns I was unaware of.
She will learn to shoot whatever I get her. She has only shot 1 other time so she is clueless.
Dad is in federal law enforcement and has a gun expert in office. They are gonna give me more information.
I really appreciate all the comments.
I just want something small that is comfortable for me. Hers will probably go into a purse and only be pulled out when i tell her to. I can shoot anything. Just wanted to see what you dudes said.
Yall the best.

Keep believing what you want to believe but this line of thinking is not the best. Don't force your idea of a good pistol on your lady. Point her in the right direction and let her be the ultimate decider.
Or don't. This is America anyway. Whatever.

If you go back & re-read my post, you'll see that I said, "Today's really good 9mm ammo makes significantly bigger holes in people than does the average .45 h.p. round. And as was pointed out, most CCW handguns will hold fewer .45 rounds than 9mm rounds."
".45 h.p." = .45 hollow point. I guess I could have made that clearer.
I think my comment is still correct.
But, it's predicated on taking the time to look for the "premium" 9mm ammo. If a person isn't going to go to the trouble to do that, the .45 hp might be a better choice.

I'm not doing ammo wars, just giving you a hard time
I'm no expert; however, I just like the bigger bullet to simply tear up more flesh...velocity and stopping power don't interest me...all of these rounds do their job, and there will be tradeoffs among all of them
I've really enjoyed going to the range and shooting different types of ammo and learning about them...they perfectly exemplify an important lesson applicable to the rest of life...choices and tradeoffs.
.357 sig, .45, .357 magnum, 9mm, they're all good
personally, I like slimmer handguns for conceal carry, so single stack mag...so if I'm going to have low ammo capacity regardless, I want the .45. I can shoot the hell out of those little guns. I've really been working on trigger control and it's made an unbelievable fricking difference at the range
