Built a brand new state of the art sports complex and now don't have enough money to keep it open.
Seems like poor planning on the front end. Everyone wants nice shite until they have to pay for it.
Don't get me wrong, it's disappointing and unfortunate. But relying on a tax and the voters for a "state of the art" complex might not have been the best move.

Who paid to have this complex built and what year was it built?
How is the park funded and maintained through out the year other than this tax? Is there a rec department affiliated with this complex or does it just belong to the parish?
Who receives all the revenue from the Grand Slam/USSSA tournaments, concessions, player fees, etc?

The AP tax was a new tax. Am I right?

Over-mortgaged fricksticks in the AP did this as well under the guise of the plan being irresponsible to traffic and other priorities.
Not the same thing. In AP it was a new tax that got voted down, not a renewal.

That's what they get for tearing down the devil's tree

It is recreation district 2 in Livingston Parish.it was built from money generated with a 10 year tax.
The tourney fees are collected up front. Tourney director pays the park. However it is just chump change compared to what tourney directors make. I've been a part of some tourneys that generated over $30000.

Right but I meant the general rejection of funding sports/recreation in their town. AP was a new tax.

Was this USSSA? Would they generate more profit for the park if they hosted Grand Slam instead?

after looking into this "tax renewal" a little more, I found this little gem.....
quote:
Parks and Recreation District 2 is asking voters to continue collecting 15 mills in the district to help maintain and improve the district’s facilities, board Chairman Ken Graves said. The district primarily operates the Live Oak Sports Complex, which offers youth sports leagues but is looking to provide more services, Graves said.
The millage is expected to bring in about $850,000 per year and accounts for the vast majority of the district’s funding. The district has an annual operating budget of about $700,000 but has several projects on the horizon, Graves said.
The district is looking to purchase land near the complex for cross country biking and jogging trails. Further down the line, Graves would like to build a community center that could host events such as wedding receptions.
“The size is going to be dictated by the funding we have,” he said.
In January, the district plans to break ground for a concession area at the sports complex. The board chairman said it would not have a full kitchen but would feature restroom facilities and a pavilion. Specifics of the construction have yet to be hammered out, as the bidding period has not closed.

I dont think Uncle Chops and his 35-40 team tournaments are pulling in what a big USSSA tournament is. Chops has nicer events though.

I am ticked at that new courthouse. Saw it the other day. It's ridiculous

I don't have a kid playing tourney ball anymore. He's HS ball now. But it was u-trip tourneys back then. GS had not really taken off then.

Move to New Orleans and let your kids play at one of the Reggie Bush parks.

From what I've heard, a park isn't allowed to host both, according to the rants on the web. Some parks have been threatened by certain organizations. It's either all or nothing.

Um, forcefully confiscating money from citizens is Socialism, mmmkay.
Besides, we got a black Muslim president so how can we even be sure the money is going to be used for what the gubment says it will be used for?!?!?
