Critter Control - How to get rid of chipmunks without a cat or lots of poison?

I moved into this house back in August, and there is a serious issue with chipmunks in the front and back yards. They shite in the pine straw that covers the bushes/garden bed. It's most in the front but some of it is in the back as well.
I have an 18 month old that plays outside a lot and a dog. The dog keeps trying to catch them, but she's too damn slow.
I'd prefer to not get a cat as I'm allergic and I don't think the cat would really eliminate the problem. It would just put a dead animal on my porch every now and then.
I'd rather not use lots of poison as my dog could eat it or worse my son gets into it.
Any suggestions?
EDIT - There's also a rabbit that lives under my neighbor's house. I asked him about it, and he said he considers it a pet. I think it too is shitting in the pine straw.

According to Wikipedia; Dale from 'The Rescue Rangers' absolutely LOVES candy... can't get enough of it... I'd start there

Get a live trap. When you catch them, you can transport them a few miles away. A cat will absolutely work, but then you have a cat.

Teach them how to sing.

I'm just wondering how many Chipmunks you could possibly be dealing with that them crapping in the pine straw is a problem? I think you should keep the chipmunks and pour yourself a drink. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Find holes in the ground.. Pour a gallon or so of High Octane ... Light it... Continue to next hole

In trying to deal with normal(at least as "normal" as they can be) "cat people" - I constantly have to remind them - the only differences between domesticated cats and the great cats (lions, tigers) are:
Size
Coloration
Ability to roar
All the rest - the killer instinct, and the incredible ability to kill in proportion to its size - are the same.
In fact, the only member of the feline genus that has significant structural differences, is the highly specialized cheetah. Virtually all the rest have only cosmetic differences (plus, the aforementioned ability to roar in some of the larger species).
So, yeah, with prejudice and the quickness. They've done those "Kitty Cam" research projects which verify that so-called domestic cats whose owners let them out at night for extended periods are bringing the pain to birds, snakes, rodents all over their neighborhoods.
And, in most cases, being that domesticated cats from middle class homes are very well fed - it is not for food, but for practice "just in case" something happens to their human staff...

Not sure how many. There are a lot. It fricking stinks for one thing. Second is that there are way too many flies when the weather is warm.
