To me a cash prize is not really worth the hassle, but maybe the cash prize (if any) can be among the group of people who put in money up front - highest ranked among those. If there is an easy way to do it then I would throw in a few dollars, no more than 50 though.

I figured an Andrew Jackson would be the max.. Haha
I am doing this more to learn than win. I figure some of the other guys like Russian will win this easily. But if I can double my money and get some great dividends then let's go.

I usually lurk and am pretty much money retarded, but this seems fun. It could also teach me how to be less money retarded. Joined.

So, I've got 1 mil to spend. Can I go ahead and start picking stocks, or do I have to wait until 1-2-15?

As stated at some point in this thread, I think you can go ahead and place orders but they will not fill until January 2nd. If you place an order now and want to cancel, I believe you can.

I am testing out the dividend theory on investopedia website with their 100k simulator.
WWE gives 0.12 a share.

A few thoughts on the recent posts:
1) None of us know at this point how dividends are accounted for by the MarketWatch game. It may reinvest the dividends, it may pay the dividends out in cash to increase the cash in each person's balance or ( horrors) it might ignore dividend payments entirely which would suck because a stock's price adjusts down by the amount of the dividend on the day after the ex-dividend date.
I will set up a game tomorrow for only me and I will research some stocks that will be going ex-div soon and "buy" them and I will post how the dividends are treated as soon as the pay date arrives. Then we will all know.
2) I am in favor of a token amount of $$$ that any player can donate for a prize of some sort. However we have to make sure the owners of TigerDroppings do not have a problem with that. Some legal eagle might accuse the site of conducting a form of gambling and it might give TigerDroppings a problem and they might kill our thread.
Brink, could you email Chicken at the TD email address given on the "Guidelines" page and make sure our prize money arrangement is okay with him?
If the money donation part causes a problem I will offer to underwrite the money for prizes by myself up to $250. And I won't accept the prize on the off chance I win so that should remove any gambling resemblance since no one else puts up any money. It's just a free game for everyone else with a prize(s) at the end.
3) For the posters who think I'll win, you're wrong. While I am pretty good at knowing when to buy a stock, I totally suck at knowing when to sell. I've posted on this board several times that the surest way to know a stock is going to increase in price is for me to sell it the day before.

So what do you plan on selling next week?
Thanks in advance

I don't have any plans to sell anything but I did short 1,500 shares of BAC this afternoon at $17.69/share so it's probably going to hit a 52 week high on Monday.

Ruskie, yeah I will shoot him an email Monday. Although I don't see how it would be a problem considering the fantasy board and the pots they have there.
Someone else needs to organize everyone that will be playing for a pot. Everyone who enters will be eligible to win a gift card of their choosing.

Pretty sure dividend stocks will do this.

Fantasy insider trading allowed?
I won't do it but my profession gives me an unfair leg up

I think I'll not do a 2015 market prediction thread. 2014 was the 4th year I've done it and it's gotten a little stale.
Say it ain't so. As a matter of fact I was disappointed not to see an update on 12/1/14.
Also, since you’ve played around is the system I have a question you may be able to answer. Is there a “fee” for a trade that is taken into account?
Posted on 12/5/14 at 10:31 pm to PlanoPrivateer
I skipped the 11/30 prediction update for two reasons:
1) I wanted the suspense to build before the final 12/31/14 results, and, 2) I forgot.
You could take over doing it for 2015.
To answer your fee question, there is a flat fee of $10 per trade.

In.
I've got a lot to learn and look forward to the experience.
