Dude had balls of steel. Two missed final plays away from retiring w/ 5 NCs.

I really dont know what to expect from him. There is more uncertainty that I can ever recall here right now.

The Florida St Orange Bowl was such a screw job and yet they still were kicking a FG for the win.

Would you keep working past 60 if you didn't have to?

Those were the best 5 years in his 25 year career too.

Lot of 9 or 10 win seasons (including a bowl game) before then. Good/great years, but not legendary. Lost a couple defacto national title games. 2009-onwards Les Miles-ish.

Then those last 5 years, shite really came together

They almost fired him a few times because he couldn't win the big one.

Glad they didn't.

Texas happened. They changed everything to beat them, and still lost every year.

It's something that Nebraska blames Texas for getting rid of when they formed the Big 12 (even though it was an 11-1 vote).

I love the story LSU's Clint James told me about Tom Osbourne. Said he came to his home to recruit him and visit his mother. This was the NO projects, says as Dr Tom is standing on the porch doorway being greeted by Clint's family at the door, some wiseass in another unit above on the second floor, drops a beer bottle from above that shatters right by his feet. Clint says Dr Tom doesn't blink, doesn't lose eye contact, doesn't miss stride in his conversing, no fear..now there's the man that went for two!

Says he was so impressed with him fearless in da hood, and how direct and honest he were with his mother, that he was so close to being a Husker.

I remember Joe Weider's Muscle and Fitness did a huge article in the 1980s about the Husker Power weight room/program under Boyd Epley, and this red level area where only the biggest lifters could bench. In 1981 at 13000 sq ft it was the world's largest weight room at the time. It was so far ahead of all the others back then it wasn't even funny. Epley, Devaney, and Neb founded the strength trainer foundation, were game changers in this area. Neb's facility 35 years ago was somewhat similar to much of what is just the norm these last 15 years at most programs. Dave Rimington and other former Husker players used to make jokes about some NFL rooms and trainers in contrast to their Husker days back then.

Those Neb steroid freaks used to be trailing LSU every game at Halftime, or in the 3rd, then like many northern teams would begin to wear down the southern teams with strength..times have changed!
