I don't know if this will lead to a National Championship. No one does. College football is unpredictable. But the hire has been made and I'm going to support the guy.

He turned down Bama 12 years ago. It's nowhere near turning down modern day Bama.
It is the same program. Bama is elite so is Nebraska that has never changed

This hire reminds me of when Auburn hired Gene.

Im still shocked that Nebraska didnt at least interview Craig Bohl. The guy was born in Lincoln, played for Nebraska, coached at Nebraska when they were dominant and then built North Dakota State into a freaking power. How on Earth did they not even interview this guy?

I'm Nebraska's biggest fan, but even I admit that the Huskers are no longer elite. Our tenure of being elite ended during the Callahan era, and we have not yet recovered.

It's rare you get a hire that's just completely baffling from both the school's and coach's perspective. Still just makes no sense to me for anyone. Hiring Coach O would even seem more reasonable.

The new AD was looking for a high character guy who is unanimously well-liked and personable, and that's what they got. No more temper tantrums on the sidelines, no more negative energy. Eichorst is all about being positive and not letting any "energy vampires" spoil that. The belief that both Eichorst and Riley have is that with top resources, a hard-working coach who does everything the right way can be successful.
I was baffled by the hire at first, didn't even know who the guy was, to be honest. But it's pretty unanimous across the board from former players, fellow coaches, and media that he is a great person and coach and a great hire. I guess I'll give him a couple years and see what he can do. If it fails, both he and Eichorst will be gone.
As far as Bohl goes, he was let go unceremoniously during his last coaching tenure in Lincoln. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Eichorst wants to keep anything related to Osborne far away from Lincoln.
