I have a red-tailed boa constrictor. It's crazy how mild he is. I've had him for 6 or 7 years now, and he's never displayed threatening behavior much less bit anyone. His name is Hades.

Same with my carpet pythons. They are notorious for being very "nippy" when young, but mine have never struck at me and don't mind being handled often.

Is it very common for their personalities to change as they get older (like 15-20 yearsish)? He's about 7-8 ft now, and still has some growing to do so I'm a little worried. He's so strong even when he isn't trying that I'm worried of what he's capable of if he snaps for some reason.

They usually don't look that blue. When you see them IRL they look black.

We used to hunt right outside of Cotulla.
There were some giant indigos down there. There was one coiled up on a tree stumb that we thought was two snakes. Turned out to be one, 9-10 ft.

That's what has kept me from getting a boa or one of the large pythons. As a kid I dreamed of one day owning a huge Burmese python, and I really want a red-tail boa right now. Both of those are snakes that look best in their regular form - none of the natural color morphs or "designer" colors can match their normal natural beauty. But I decided to stick with snakes that will remain very manageable even when they are 20 years old. My carpets will max out around the size of a large rat snake, with just a bit more girth.And I'll never have rabbit-sized loads of crap to clean up. 
When I was a kid we used to hang out at the old snake farm on Hwy. 90 in Slidell. They had a Retic around 26-27 feet long, and a Burmese around 15 feet that was as big around as I was. It took about 10 guys to handle that retic.

They're basically pure muscle. I think my red-tailed is a male because I believe he has the spurs, so I'm hoping he maxes out around 10-12 ft.
