The hospital was needed, introduced Noah and took out the sexyness. Also allowed sub plots of Ricks leadership being questioned with daryl and ty now getting in the way of progress as Abraham did with terminus.
I'm not sure if rick will smile if he sees Morgan again, then again..Morgan may show up at the right time and save Ricks arse again. This season has had some distorted parallels to season 1.

Beth definitely instigated the actual physical confrontation with Dawn. (Granted, Dawn was a crazy bitch to insist they leave Noah, but ...)
The lesson here is if you are going to pull a Han Solo and "shoot" first, you should probably not do it with a pair of scissors against a big arse gun.
