Octonauts.
Jake and The Pirates.
Anything Imaginext (Pirates, Castle, Space Stuff, City Rescue, Batman, etc.)
Seriously - what does he love watching on TV the most. Guarantee there are toys for whatever that is.

Yeah we have the john deer 2 seater gator or whatever is called. It's pretty fast but you can adjust the speed. But if he doesn't have siblings then i would suggest the 1 seat tractor John deere because it seems much easier to steer.
Also mine loves his friends 4 wheeler, so he is getting one for his birthday

Do they still make the old yellow steel bodied, rubber tired toy dumpers that my generation pushed around the sandbox when we were that age?

Kindle for kids, some super hero capes, some books, and a few other random toys.

Kind of. You can get steel ones or plastic ones. We made a point of getting a steel one because we still have my husband's one like it from the '70s. We put our son's new one next to the old one and it doesn't seem as "tough"--more plastic parts to it, but also not as many sharp edges to hurt yourself on.

Mine is 4 so he doesn't necessarily meet the thread's standards but I'm getting Him a BB gun (ages 10+... frick it)
And his own mini ranger since he likes the real ones so much.
Then misc stuff.

A lifetime hunting/fishing license. They really cheap if you get them while your child is really young. I forget the cutoff date. Anyhow not something that will supply a wow factor now but if it's a path they follow as they get holder he will be really happy for it later.

You forgot one thing. An empty 2 liter coke bottle. Hundreds of dollars spent on Toys and yet they would rather play with the trash. >:(

After raising a son and daughter we are now helping raise our grandkids. We have a 3 year old grandson and a 5 year old grand daughter. After years of buying toys that get played with once on christmas day and junk up the place for years we are buying both Samsung tablets and some clothes. frick toys.

We are getting our 3 year old son a Nintendo 2DS so he will stop fighting with his older brother wanting to play his.

I'm buying this for a 5 year old but suspect his 3 year old brother will get a lot of us out of it too:
1:16 size, die cast with a little plastic here and there. Something like $35 shipped from 3000Toys.
