Can someone explain to me why he isn't playing? It's not like he can do any worse that Corey White. If anything he may help us out with his size at least.

Unfortunately he can, and probably would.

Our front office decided to waste a 2nd round pick on a project player that isn't supposed to contribute for another year or two.

Picks like these are the reason we are in a shite hole right now. Other than 2006 this front office has shite the bed on a lot of draft classes. Just look at this years draft class. Cooks and Sunseri were the only two on the field.

I'll give them credit for '13 as well, but outside of '06 and '13, it hasn't been pretty. Especially on the defensive side of the ball.

bust

Not true. Remember, White has improved over where he was a couple of years ago. Baptiste can most certainly be worse.

Does anybody think we should just trade down and get a multitude of picks in the mid and lower rounds? It seems we do better in those rounds and with UDFA anyway.

No.
We say that, but we've been drafting bad in the later rounds for a while. We haven't struck gold on a Jahri Evans, Carl Nicks, Marques Colston, Zach Strief, etc type players in the later draft for years.

He obviously sucks and will probably never play for us

We dont necessarily strike gold with every one, but we have been missing big with earlier picks lately. At least thats my perception.

since 2011:
Cameron Jordan, Mark Ingram (1st)
Martez Wilson, Johnny Patrick (3rd)
Greg Romeus, Nate Bussey (7th)
Isa Abdul Quddus (UDFA)
2012:
Akiem Hicks (3rd)
Nick Toon (4th)
Corey White (5th)
Andrew Tiller (6th)
Marcel Jones (7th)
2013:
Kenny Vaccaro (1st)
Terron Armstead, John Jenkins (3rd)
Kenny Stills (5th)
Rufus Johnson (6th)
Josh Hill, Tim Lelito, and Khiry Robinson (UDFA)
2014:
Brandin Cooks (1st/3rd)
SJB (2nd)
Khairi Fortt (4th)
Vinnie Sunseri, Ronald Powell (5th)
Tavon Rooks (6th)
None of the 1st rounder are busts imo. Each started and has contributed well. Considering they were all late picks (minus Vaccaro, but I'll give him a total 3 years to develop) in the 1st round, the chance of them not being "all-pro" caliber than top 10 picks is lower. Of course as of right now they're all solid so it isn't a bad point to start. It isn't like we're fielding Sedrick Ellis post-2010.
2nd rounders: SJB and he hasn't stepped on the field. I'll reserve judgement for another 2 years.
3rd rounders: Wilson and Patrick are no longer in the league at the moment I believe. Akiem Hicks, John Jenkins, and Terron Armstead are all starters
4th rounders: Nick Toon is all-pro offseason WR, Khairi Fortt jumped from us to Bengals and now to jacksonville sitting behind 3 other guys.
5th rounders: Corey White is just not any good, but he's forced to play due to depth issues and bad management this offseason. Kenny Stills is a solid #2 receiver, Vinnie Sunseri was an ace special team player (even in college), and Ronald Powell is still a ?? on development.
6th rounders: Andrew Tiller has bounced from us, to SD, to GB, and now to SF. Rufus was released by us and no one picked him up. Tavon Rooks we'll see.
7th rounders: Greg Romeus was a 1st round potential, but he's injury prone and now done. Nate Bussey went from us to Jacksonville and now I believe he's in the CFL. Marcel Jones is now on Baltimore's practice squad.
We've drafted pretty piss poor to be honest, but we've only struck "gold" on one late rounder and that was Kenny Stills.

It's ok, cause we signed Jairus Byrd and therefore could afford to neglect literally every other defensive position.

The FO is really going to have to earn their money this offseason for the Saints to be relevant ext season.
Gonna have to be a few coaching changes too.

If he's getting beat more in practice than Corey White, he will not get into an NFL game.
If he's lost in coverage, he will not get into an NFL game.
He's a wasted draft choice.
Next question.
