It's been posted before that he grew up with an affinity for LSU. Not sure how credible that is. Judging by what's available on the free recruiting sites, I don't think there was ever really much to LSU recruiting him (or vice-versa).
you may be totally right
I heard that from some commentator last year ???

This is, by far, the exception, not the rule.
Seems like it is becoming more of the rule, just like young QBs in the NFL.

“One thing I have to say about Coach Miles and LSU recruiting: very thorough,” Crowton said. “I’ve been at a lot of places. Coach Miles is very thorough. He knows what he’s looking for. That’s one of his great strengths.” The system works, Crowton said. After all, LSU signed two top-ranked QBs

Given that he didn't throw a pass in 4 years here, this may not be the best example to use in illustrating this staff's ability to evaluate HS QBs.

How did that work out ?

Agreed, even though now there are QB's ready to play as freshmen this is not typical. Their analysis of what happened with Perilloux is spot on.

Obviously it's not the rule, but it's not a big exception either.

Just over the past 5-6 years. These are the more notable guys, but there are also others that I don't feel like writing down. Also, I only listed first year or second year students.

The "youth" crap is a cop out. RS Freshmen and Sophomores are leading FBS teams all over the country. We don't need Heisman performances to win games.
This has been a go to excuse mitch like the rebuilding one. Plenty of coaches manage to get it done, ours just doesn't or can't.

You've got to be freaking shitting me...you don't think our offense executed last year?

AJ is a lot like JJ so far in that he hasbt improved.
That's what is alarming.
Hate or love JL, at least he was a better an day he left than he was day he arrived.
Same can be said or ZMett.
You gotta improve and grow is the point.

We have o-line problems... what's the "cop out" there?
O-Line coach just got fired, adjusting to new coach, new coach hasn't had the opportunity to work with his own recruits yet.

Yes, and so did RGIII.

Prescott, wanted to play QB for LSU,
we said NO QB
Wrong. Prescott himself addressed this myth. LSU did want him to play QB, but was on him late. Miss St. was on him from the beginning and that is where he decided to play.

I think the point is that all of our eggs are in the Jennings basket with the only other option being a true freshman. Jennings is not panning out and we have no other QB to go to. In all, this was a recruiting breakdown.
Youth is an excuse for Harris not being ready. Starting a true freshman in the SEC would have been giving up 3 losses before the season even started.

great article and one thing that i take from it is that they are looking for teh exact smae offensive identity as bama has. they want a qb that has a high IQ, that is accurte, manages the flow of the game, is a leader, and will not lose the game. They don't want an athletic stud.
The guy they want is Shea Patterson. Everything on that list is him. Franks may have the flash, but Patterson is the guy we really need to be leading the offense this staff wants to run. Maybe getting Kelly then Patterson taking over after that is what the stafff is banking on at this point. Maybe they just don't see the light coming on with Harris. I don't know but putting the pieces together lead you to believe that's the case.
Then again i really question taking a guy like McMillan over someone like Pellerin, or even Donovan Isom last year. Pellerin seems like more of what the staff wants and is less of a project than JM.

relative to the talent on it, no it didn't perform to near it's potential. It did have a lot of individual great talents making individual great plays however.
