Why doesn't the Ivy League participate in the FCS playoffs?

Just basic elitism or is there a legitimate reason?

They aren't there to play football, they're there to play school.

Could say the same thing about the service academies, yet they still play in bowl games.

Bowl games are after finals.
Playoffs are during.

Short answer...the Ivy League doesn't allow its teams to participate in either, and limits their regular season games to 10 games.

Have they ever participated in postseason games?

Harvard won the Rose Bowl in 1920

Right. More interested in their reasoning. Seems like they don't want to be associated with the Sam Houston St, Montanas, and Eastern Washingtons of the world more than any legitimate reason.

Nope.
Again, this is something that has gone on since the 50s
It has nothing to do with being associated with schools like SHSU or Montana and everything to do with school work taking precedence over sports.
Not sure why you can't accept that as a legitimate reason.

Notre Dame was the same way with bowls between the 20s until 67.

back in the day the Ivy League had a great QB. tore up the Ivy league and became an instant IvySports hall of famer. broke every pass record and a legend. after his playing career he became commisioner and changed the format to make sure no playoffs were ever played in the league
That mans name was Jonathan "Mox" Moxson and he first started the tradition of not playing in the playoffs by completely disbanding his whole high schoolfootball team after they won the district championship but never played another game despite Texas's rich history of playoff football

Yale has 18 national titles recognized by the CFDW. Take that, Bama.

Too busy writing term papers and interviewing with Goldman Sachs.

You didn't even provide a "legitimate reason" in this post

Bull...it's trying to say you are above that - ergo, elitism.
Notre Dame pulled the same crap - Notre Dame refused bowl bids from 1925-1970 until Ara threw a hissy-fit. Finally Notre Dame relented, releasing they couldn't win the national title (per usual) with just their regular season record.
There has always been an academic snobbery to post-season...like it's undignified for gentlemen.

And the AP still awarded ND 5 titles during that span.

Placing a greater importance on school work over sports is not a legitimate reason to skip out on the postseason?
Are you trolling brah?
