Jack Lalanne did his usual, regular workout the day before he died - he was 96.

Out of curiosity, why all the hate for bench press?

Most are little guys who prefer yoga and working out in the ladies weight section.

Half reppers suck. But you can do a full rep without touching your chest.

People tend to hate things they're not good at but wish they were. Most men, whether they like to admit it or not, want to be strong. However, most men are not strong.

What does high school have to do with doing an exercise that builds strength and chest/front delts?

NTTAWWT

A lot of gals like to do yoga, so it is a good way to warm up/cool down before or after a real workout.

How tall or lanky was the guy.

Bench is harder for us guys with long arms.

Whats the point?

Its not particularly healthy. Just do cardio (I prefer non impact like cycling to preserve my knees and ankles), pushups, situps (and variety of core stuff), and lots of stretching and you will be healthier than any meathead at the gym.

But of course everyone wants big muscles that will eventually turn into fat. They want to use strenuous free weight exercises that will leave them with terrible bones, muscles, and ligaments when they are old farts.

ETA:

Not actual fat, but those people have gross skin and continue their caloric intake which makes them fat. Just easier to say it the way I did

I don't go all the way down to my chest, if I can help it I don't drop down below a 45 degree angle. I also do not fully extend on the way up
