re: Some amazing stats regarding Holiday

Sure, bud.
PER 36 stats and % instead of per game is cherry picking. Payton can't shoot. Noels offense is a mess. They need time because they're rookies. Pelicans didn't want to wait on these guys. Holiday has been good.

Crowing about Holiday being better than 2 rookies is silly.
It definitely is about the opportunity cost, what other trades could we have made instead.

I see "experts" like Fisher and McNamara bring it up only after Holiday has a good game.
The funny thing is I'm pretty sure McNamara said early and often when the trade went down you shouldn't judge it based on Noel vs. Holiday and made the opportunity cost argument.

The pissing contest about the trade is stupid right now.
It's stupid in the future too. I don't think we were ever going to keep Noel. That pick was getting traded one way or another. The question really is what else we passed up to get Jrue. Could we have gotten Rondo? Could we have gotten a young veteran starting SF for just the 2013 pick and then drafted Elfrid Payton to be our PG of the future? Could you have still signed Tyreke, let him be the PG and then traded the 2014 pick for Afflalo.
Tyreke/Smith
Afflalo/Rivers
Jeff Green(or another SF trade target)/2015 1st
AD/Ryno
Asik/Scrub
That's a long and offensively potent lineup, although it might be lacking defensive speed on the perimeter. But I can't say it's definitely worse than where I hope we will be next year:
Holiday/Smith
Tyreke/Rivers
Green/2015 1st
AD/Ryno
Asik/Scrub

he reality is both teams can "win" the trade.

Not sure he was saying you cherry-picked. Seemed more supportive of your post than anything. I can't speak for him, though.

Unless I missed the sarcasm font, I think he was casting aspersions.

I agree with that. Yet if he's tweeting Noel's stat lines, he's adding fuel to a dumb fire.
I will say that I can only imagine the nonsense that McNamara and Fisher see on Twitter, comments, etc. Some of it is self inflicted and they choose to do this, but it has to take a toll on your sanity.

Yep. The teams made different choices. Saying it worked or didn't at 92 games is silly. Both teams made long term moves and both are on course to achieve those goals (playoff race and lottery ping pong ball odyssey)
Everyone has to have a hot take right now, but no one will know shite about the success of this trade for years. And probably not even then because we have no idea what other moves were available to Demps

Didn't see much chatter after the stinker in Portland. The reality is both teams can "win" the trade. Sixers and the Pels had different motives and have different goals. Let's see what happens over the next couple of years
Pretty funny. Like no one is familiar with NBA rookies. Go back and look at Hall of Fame players' rookie seasons, tons of players "struggle". It's called growth.
People yapping about Noel: leads all rookies in rebounds, blocks, and steals... 9 games into his career Tons of posters here are going to be so wrong on this guy
And Payton never could shoot, probably never will. He's still filling up the box score every night. He's going to be one of the better all around PGs in the NBA in the coming years. People judging his career after 13 games if laughable

Good post, LosLobos. He doesn't really pass my "eye test" to be honest (never has) but I suppose that a PG can be an Alex Smith type (KC Chiefs QB) and be insanely effective if he has good weapons around him.
I wasn't aware that his PER was so high and that his A/TO ratio was so sparkling.

To me, Payton is going to be average. Is that bad? Nope. It just means he's a decent starter or a good spark plug off the bench. I always saw his ceiling as something like 14-16ppg on 42% shooting and 7-8ast to 3 turnovers. Tack on about 4-5 rebounds as well.
Who knows how long that'd take to develop though.
Accelerating the process by trading for young vets like Jrue and Tyreke was a risky gamble, but we had to be risky. Franchises rarely get a 2nd shot at a superstar within a couple of years. While teams like Utah lose their superstar (Deron Williams) and can't find another fast enough.
