I have a small business and need a local CPA. Who's the best in Baton Rouge?

What service(s) do you need from a CPA? I would be hesitant to recommend anyone without knowing what types of expertise you seek.

I need someone to handle my personal and business tax filings. Business is very small I am only employee outside of a couple of 1099 commission only sales reps

You could get away with a smaller firm for now. Would likely be cheaper and you would get the same service.
If your business grows significantly and your situations become more complex, Postlethwaite and Netterville is the best firm in the state for complex matters IMO.

If your issues are complex enough then you may as well go with the best. The global firms are the best, and their expertise should be worth more than the price differential for their services.

That was my comment because he seemed like he had a relatively small business and as it grew P&N would be a firm to look at. If he wants to pay $250/hr for a staff accountant from Big 4 who doesn't know jack to do his return, that's fine.
The Big 4 has huge clients and they can handle the absolute most complex issues (SEC filings etc.), that doesn't seem to be his need.

Lol, coming here to ask if I should hire a CPA or do my taxes myself. I just did my October parish taxes and was thinking about it. I hate doing the taxes.

I agree and I was also agreeing with poodle. I seriously doubt he needs a big 4.
I picked up a new client a few years back who had a small shipping co. He filed an 1120 IC-DISC and a 1040. It took me maybe 30 minutes to complete both. E&Y was charging him over $7,000 just for tax preparation.

Do you think they acquired Big 4 status on knowledge alone?

quote:I disagree 10000000000% here and I am a CPA who worked and now deals with the Big 4. For any smaller size company in Louisiana, a firm like P&N will do far better work, and be alot cheaper then Big 4. I am pretty sure P&N has the expertise needed, they do have the chairman of the AICPA at their firm.

quote:What does this have to do with specialized expertise? The chairman of the AICPA is not decided on merit. It is a political position. How much time does the person serving as chairman of the AICPA devote to his duties as chairman versus time devoted to serving clients?

quote:If you want to talk about servicing clients, you should see the way the Big 4 treats a smaller client in Louisiana. Bare minimum work topped with maximum charging is what you will get. We didnt care about retention of those clients or gaining more work in that sector. It was completely unimportant to our bottom line. When you go to P&N or HTB you will get them busting their balls for you because you are their market, you are what drives their company. I am not suggesting some 10 person firm here, P&N and HTB are both fairly large, with P&N being the 69th largest in the US

He's the Managing Partner at the firm and has been for awhile so his work day doesn't really consist of serving clients.
