I'm a meteorologist so I know about the weather (and that it's COLD in winter)

But as far as a place to raise a family, anyone spent time there?

The Great Northern out of Cheyenne, from sea to shining sea.

I worked there one summer, thought it was kind of boring. But it's probably close to skiing and stuff. That's all I got.

My experience is limited to hunting in that area, but my impression is that of a relatively small town out west...I find that a surprisingly good resource is just to look at Wikipedia to check the incomes and demographics of an area...

All I know about Cheyenne is that there are beaches there and that they have a bull no man can ride

Toronto Raptors forward James Johnson is from there. That's all I've got.

Cheyenne wouldn't be a bad place to raise kids. Wyoming is pretty boring if you're not into ranch/outdoor lifestyle. You're a couple of hours or so from Casper, and I know they do a little skiing in Casper. That's all I've got.

eta: I haven't been to Frontier Days since I was a kid, but I know some people that go every year, and one guy that competes in the steer wrestling. It sounds like a good time.

Very boring but close enough to Denver that you're not completely isolated like you'd be in Casper.

If I were to ever live in that area of the country it'd be Montana for sure. Better in every way than Wyoming from what I've seen.

Why not Montana? Even Billings. Kind of a shithole but it's the biggest city in MT so there's plenty to do.

I stayed overnight in Cheyenne on my way to Portland. Not much there. Wyoming is beautiful though.

do you like wide open spaces? plenty of room to make mistakes, meet new faces, get high and cook steaks.

It's not bad, depends on what kind of lifestyle you have. Eastern Wyoming is pretty flat and barren, gets cold in winter but not a lot of snow. It's only about 40 miles from Fort Collins, CO and about 100 from Denver. Crime is slightly lower than average, think there's an air force base there too.

Cheyenne fricking blows...it's worse than Casper. Northern Wyoming is where it's at. But Wyoming>Montana...Montana is just as fricking boring.

The only cities worth living in Wyoming are Sheridan, Buffalo, Jackson, or Laramie

I go through Cheyenne all the time. Over the last couple of years it seems like the town has gotten rougher (Meth). Frontier Days are always fun, but I prefer Fort Collins.

Not terribly expensive. Sleepy little town feel to it. People are really good. The weather is the major disadvantage there. Not just the cold. Many homes are built with an artificial soil berm on the North exposure to reduce wind noise. I hear in the Winters the wind noise wears on ones nerves.
