This might be one of if not the most even -vs- threads that I've seen on this board. Half screaming it's Ferrell, the other half, Chevy.

I don't know, Danny Glover -vs- William H. Macy might have been closer.

If Zoolander doesn't count for WF I don't think you can count Caddyshack for CC either. It's not like CC is the star or even most memorable character from Caddyshack.

Respectfully disagree. Bill Murray had a memorable bit part in Caddyshack. WF had a memorable bit part in Zoolander.

Chevy was something of the center of the Caddyshack movie. He can be criticized for sort of playing the same character in Caddyshack that he always plays (I think that's fair in the same way it is fair to point out WF almost always plays a ridiculous buffoon for his comedy).

The comment about WF being a harder worker and more prolific writer was an interesting one but I'm not sure it is what the OP brought up as a topic.

Old School, Stepbrothers, talladega Nights are Ferrells best. They're funnier than Vacations and Caddyshack. But I love both.

Caddyshack might have market Chase as the star, but I think Dangerfield and O'Keefe are the stars of the picture.

Zoolander was also written and directed by Ben Stiller so of course he is marketed as the star(and title character), but Ferrell's character is more integral to the story than Chase is to Caddyshack.

I've consistently dropped Fletch here as Chase's best work.

Agree with everything you say except this...

quote:

Bill Murray had a memorable bit part in Caddyshack

The movie wasn't suppose to be about Chevy or Bill, it was about Michael O'Keefe and his chick. So if Carl Spackler was a bit part, then Tye Webb was as well.

And I really cant decide between CC and WF. CC had a couple of great movies and a good number of horrible movies. WF had really good movies, but nothing on the same level as Vacation (original and X-Mas).

you are allowed to say you liked other characters more (of course) but you can't argue that Chevy was the lead star listed because he obviously was.

respectfully disagree again. the whole movie is about zoolander character as a metaphor for the idiocy of the fashion industry. i felt like WF was funny but the plot is entirely accidental in that movie. if you removed WF from zoolander you'd be missing a really funny bit player but no one would have left the theater complaining about the plot - 95% of the people leaving the theater couldn't have told you what the plot was supposed to be so much as the subject of the movie (fashion)

x1000

I think what you have here are a lot of guys 18-30 who grew up with Ferrell and automatically consider him the GOAT.

all the vacation movies, fletch, caddyshack alone are some of the greatest comedies of all time

Old School (will be a classic)
Elf (will be a classic)
Blades of Glory
Semi-Pro
Talladega Nights
Step Brothers (could end up being a classic)

What about Fletch?

Nothing but trouble?

Three Amigos?

Foul Play?

Spies like us?

Some of the shite spewed in here is pretty funny. Just some random quotes in here

quote:

Outside of the Vacation series and Caddyshack, Chevy Chase doesn't really do it for me.

Well outside of Anchorman (which is kind of a shitty movie that is just Ferrell being his try hard self) and Old School, not much there. Talking movies that is

quote:

Ferrell and it's not close.

quote:

FERRELL > Chase, and it's not even close.

quote:

I've laughed a few times in the family vacation and family christmas movies and in three amigos, but I could not watch any more than once. Caddy Shack was not funny to me. I have enjoyed nearly everything Will Ferrell has done, have seen his movies multiple times, and will watch whatever movie he makes going forward.

I think the above three tell me that theyre three teenagers that are amused with sub-par comedy. or have the intelligence of PJ

quote:

Chase has Fletch and Clark Griswold. Caddyshack was not his film. Ferrell put out modern classic comedies

Well in that case, take Old School out of Ferrell's movies. That was not his film

quote:

Dangerfield and Murray as well as writing and other small characters played more of a role overall in making that movie great.

umm Ted Knight? The more Ive seen Caddyshack, the more I realize he was the best character in it.

quote:

Will Ferrell can actually play different characters and still be funny.

Chevy Chase just plays Chevy Chase

lolz

quote:

Caddyshack might have market Chase as the star, but I think Dangerfield and O'Keefe are the stars of the picture.

Stars as in what? O,Keefe sure if you just count on screen camera time. When I think of the 'stars' of a comedy, I think of the people that actually made the movie funny.

quote:

The movie wasn't suppose to be about Chevy or Bill, it was about Michael O'Keefe and his chick. So if Carl Spackler was a bit part, then Tye Webb was as well.

Thats true and all. Well it was supposed to be about Danny and the caddies, but they started signing a few big stars and the story changed, so your point is moot. By your statement, the Judge is just a minor character, which is false

Teenagers were too young when Ferrell hit it big.

And to say that Chevy Chase is more talented is so laughable it's really ridiculous. If you think he's funnier, fine.

It was a cheap jab at their posts.

quote:

Where exactly did I say that? I didnt.

I was just laughing at how people are using the 'its not even close' line when saying that Ferrell was better than Chase. That's ridiculous

I don't think it's close when it comes to individual talent and comedy. I think Chevy has been in some great movies, but individually it's not close, IMO.
