It's not knee jerk at all. Clearly the anomaly was 2011, not every other year since 2007. what two things have happened?

1. Nick's players left.
2. Nick moved into our backyard.

LSU will be second to Alabama as long as Saban is there and Miles is here. This has been obvious since 2008. A victory here or there will happen though.

LSU is basically Georgia. Excellent recruiting, very likeable coach, going to win more than it loses, will play down sometimes, will surprise you by playing great the next. Inconsistent, not good enough to win it all again, but good enough to beat rent a wins and most conference opponents, play in a decent bowl.

This type of thing has characterized LSU play against 'Bama for a number of recent games, all of which have resulted in losses. The JL pick 6 fest is another example. This team makes too many mistakes to be mistaken for a championship caliber program. That is the long and the short. People on here laud LSU's talent, but talent does not choke. I do not see the talent so much as mistake prone players. Last night only reinforces that view, but I am sure that my perspective is completely warped....

I made that one adjustment to what you said; BTW, totally agree with you mostly.

But I don't think it is Alabama that has killed us as a championship calibre program. I think it is a tragic convergence of Alabama (and now Ole Miss, MSU, Auburn, and maybe aTm) having strong coaching, while our coach with a pretty decent record is stuck on coaching LSU teams to play safe, and gameday schemes that are inflexible and unable to win championships versus strong, really strong, teams. Like Alabama, MSU (this year), and Auburn.

I agree with the OP, I don't see us beating Bama while Saban is there. We barely beat him the first year or two after he got to Bama when our talent levels were superior to what he had in his stable. I think as far as our QB situation goes, we can't develop a good passing QB because that's not our goal. We don't plan to throw the ball more than 15-20 times a game and you have to throw it more to get better at it!! Seems like Cam is trying to recruit some better drop-back type passers but the last few years have been spent looking for these "dual" threat QB's who end up not being a good runner or passer. Meanwhile, Saban has beaten LSU on college football's biggest game of the regular season 4 straight games, and continues to cherry pick the top 2-3 athletes in our state each year on his way to #1 recruiting classes every single year. Maybe Miles can still feel ok about losing every year to Saban, but if I were him, I would do WHATEVER IT TOOK in the offseason to make the changes necessary to the offensive scheme, QB, etc. in order to beat Bama. If you can beat Bama, you can beat nearly everyone else that you play. It's hard to have both a "good ol boy" and a championship coach at the same time. Usually the nice guys finish somewhere down the line, and the one-track minded maniacs like Saban, Jimmy Johnson, etc. are the ones who truly excel. Depends if you want to win at any cost, or just have a nice guy who wins a lot of games as your head coach.
