I wonder if growing ecig popularity will cause big tobacco to begin pushing/bribing for legal MJ...

There will be a market for both, as long as the small batch stuff is worth the trouble producing, for the smaller amount they will make.
The percentage of pot users who are 'snobs' are far and away higher (lol) than beer snobs.
If they can consistently grow high-quality bud then all power to them.

From a quick legal standpoint: The states want to legalize marijuana and claim it is a states right for which they can collect major taxes from. The problem is that marijuana is considered a controlled substance by federal law, which would have to be changed. Now you have state laws conflicting with federal laws. Fed govt claims that Congress has the power under the Commerce Clause (which includes the right to regulate channels, instruments, and substantial effects of commerce and also to prosecute citizens under USC 2814 in a state who violate federal law even if they are abiding by state laws) to stop the legalization of marijuana for non medicinal use. This is because Congress may regulate things if they threaten a national market. There is a national market for marijuana, even though it is illegal in most states, because money does change hands, it is not free and it has the potential to go into the interstate market even though it is intended for personal use. Congress can regulate things even though it can be proved that it is for personal use only and have done so on several occasions such as Wickard v Filburn (famer grew his own wheat, warned that if he produced too much he would get a penalty and did so, court said it impacts commerce because it obstructs increased prices and if all famers did this then the state cant keep prices where they want). Even if something never goes into commerce, it still may be considered in its stream.
Going to be a long road ahead to get the classification changed as they have not been swayed yet.

It's sad that the common reasoning for legalization is for more extortion and not because it is recognized that people own their bodies and decisions.
This.

Big money is getting behind the movement so it will start moving pretty quickly. Soon, a few companies will control the industry. BigWeed people will call the industry.

As soon as Coloradans cast their votes for legalization in 2012, would-be profiteers celebrated the expected green rush. One former Microsoft executive proclaimed that he would create the Starbucks of marijuana and “mint more millionaires than Microsoft.” A couple of Yale M.B.A.s started a multimillion dollar equity firm dedicated solely to financing the marijuana industry. Indeed, the big business of marijuana was born.

I need to get a hold of these guys. I would take on a consulting position with an equity stake on the free.

There will be a lot of money to be made before a few companies take control.

When states start seeing the tax revenue they will all legalize it...it's all about money. Less than 10 years.
This. Colorado is making wayyyyyy more than projected which was an incentive for voters to legalize in the first place. As I've been saying for years, once states see the cash cow it is, legalization will sweep across the nation. Money talks.
Nationwide, I'd say about 10-15 years.
