I just purchased my ticket for the 8PM showing on Thursday. My body is ready!
Edit: it goes without saying we are discussing the movie!

Can we keep spoilers to a minimum at least til Saturday, since many aren't close to an IMAX theater and won't have the option to see it til Friday.

How do I find a 70mm imax? im in San Jose so I assume there would be one.

Or you can simply avoid the official discussion thread until you see it.

Or you could not click on the threads before you see it. It's only a few more days, I'm sure you can do it

I watched it last night. I won't post my reaction until someone else starts a spoiler thread.
I will say to contain your excitement though.

I just got out of it, and I think the film met my incredibly high expectations. This is Christopher Nolan's masterpiece, and like 2001, as it's analyzed further (this certainly has a life on DVD), I think it will have the legacy of being one of the greatest sci fi films of all time, right alongside 2001.
This film was everything I wanted from it and more, and I cried buckets. Third film to make me cry, after Schindler's List and Grave of the Fireflies, although my tears were not of sorrow like those two. Going to see it again tomorrow, since this is a film that requires much digestion and definitely looking forward to the debates this film is going to incite over the coming weeks.

Wow, that says a lot. I'm "into space and NASA" like your post in the other thread pointed out. That being said, I'm curious to how you'd relate this movie to something like Gravity and how it stacks up. I'm sure you saw that as well.

I think I'd take Gravity over Interstellar.

The thing is Gravity isn't really sci fi. It's a modern day disaster movie set in space. Gravity's only real goal was to make you feel like you're in space and get your heart beating a million miles an hour, and it has some symbolism about the resilience of life. Gravity is about the experience, not the story or the overall symbolism. I love Gravity, and Cuaron completely succeeded in doing everything he wanted to do with the film, but Interstellar is just on a different plain to really be accurately compared to.
Unlike Gravity, Interstellar isn't designed to make you feel like you're in space, since that would detract from what the movie is trying to say. It's a film with a ton to say, and I think that turned some of the critics off. Just understand that gravity warps time, and I don't think the plot is all as difficult to keep up with as the reviewers would have you believe. Interstellar will be a film watched for decades to come, while people will only go watch Gravity when it's rereleased in February every 5 or so years. Interstellar looks beautiful on the big screen, but I don't think it's completely essential to give you the experience it's trying to give you.

but at least Gravity is consistent with its own scientific elements, even if there were fewer to be inconsistent with.
nevermind I'm discarding this whole argument as it really is a non sequitor.

I agree with this.
Interstellar is a big, complex film. There's lots to discuss.
And, because no film is perfect, there will be room to discuss whether some things should have been done differently.
Matthew Mc's acting is very strong. He did a nice job.
