Team is instantly better
Could have picked up a free agent PG in offseason

That lineup would get pushed around.

We wouldn't have picked Noel.

Noel was outstanding last night and has been great all year. I know that Pels fans like to stick up for the moves that Dell has made but IMO there won't be many if any Pels fans who will be saying that trading that pick was the right move 3-4 years down the road.

not only would we not have taken noel if we were keeping our pick but that frontcourt would get manhandled versus teams with size

quote:Why does this matter at all? Noel was available and could've been had. If the GM blew it he blew it the " we wouldn't have picked him" excuse weak as hell especially considering you don't know who they would've picked!!

quote:it matters because it's all hindsight. we weren't going to pick noel if we would've kept that pick. so to say pels fans won't admit that the trade was bad if noel shines is intellectually dishonest because if the trade wouldn't have happen it was going to be a pg.

we weren't going to pick noel

I remember saying at the time that Demps was under pressure to try and "win now". With Davis, you have an elite player so it's not like he has killed the franchise, but I think you can question the way he's tried to build around him. Go after big names regardless of the fit.

Well think of it this way. Memphis has the best front court in all of basketball, they pretty much manhandled a large center Asik and AD.
Does anyone honestly think Noel/AD would have fared better? Noel has no offensive game at all and if he played, AD would be forced to play center against Gasol. That is not something that is going to work very well or at least not without AD needing a 24hour ice bath.
The trade is fine, you get yourself a quasi-all star/ a slightly above average PG for a pair of 1st rounders.
The biggest blunder that is holding this team back is the large contract EG holds, remove that and we could have a SF worth a damn: Ariza, Parsons, or Batum.

I honestly think the Holiday trade was too pricey. I think it's fair to question the price of getting Holiday, not the development of the draft picks of players who were picked at those spots or after. Anybody can play the "your GM isn't Sam Presti" game with draft picks. I'm sure in a truly transparent world, Dell would admit to buyer's remorse on Holiday after basically landing Tyreke for peanuts later. In a vacuum, the Holiday move is still in my opinion Dell's biggest misstep outside of He-Who-Has-No-Knees-Heart's extension. Though oddly enough, I actually understand that move more. In reality, Holiday was a big step towards luring Tyreke here, and even with the ascension of Davis, NOLA isn't a sexy landing spot currently.
It is honestly hard for most of us to objectively judge Demps as Monty Williams is a complete nincompoop. He's done a very decent job at acquiring talents and the Evans/Holiday deals are looking like bargains comparing them to Rubio/Burks and other small market teams.

It goes in a chain reaction type of deal, one wouldn't happen without the other imo.
It sucks, it started off horribly with the EG signing and just became a roller coaster. I don't like Noel on this team personally, he just doesn't fit. Asik works better, but the clusterfrick of coaching and trying to fit pieces are just flat out bad.

You're right. All the Pelicans need is more PF's.
Davis, Anderson, Noel. They should get 2 more and just have a starting 5 of nothing but PF's.
